irokin Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 I think you could go as far as saying you WILL need an aftermarket computer if your going to run boost. Quote
Nitephyre Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 why's that? and define "budget" aftermarket computer... :| Quote
NickZ Posted March 5, 2004 Author Report Posted March 5, 2004 It goes..Took it for a drive tonight, needs alot of tuning, only problem is its an old microtech and i don't have the book so tuning is all guess work. also had the manifold off again as i had a air leak which was causing all my problems. (idling at 4000 rpm) Quote
Teddy Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 4000 rmp - ah, not too bad LOL hope it gets fixed!!!! Quote
JapTastic Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I'd say it'd be Delco, the fuel injected Camiras had them as well. I've looked at the MegaSquirt breifly....I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to electrical stuff. So its not an option for me. Also how hard is it to tune one of those things, getting cheap EFI is one thing, but if its going to take hours of experimentation on a dyno, the cost can quickly add up. I think a safer route would possibly be buying a 2nd hand fuel only unit ie: microtech/EMS/or early F series Haltechs. Quote
NickZ Posted March 7, 2004 Author Report Posted March 7, 2004 Here is the pics for the fuel system....And yes its a mess :) also I fitted the electronic dizzy. revs better but didnt really do much. the car is now going and I'm happy with it....till the turbo is fitted. and last one. Ive included the Microtech hand set for programing the fuel injection :o Quote
demuire Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Very cool. I'm guessing you weren't planning on putting anything in your boot for awhile :) Quote
Nitephyre Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 is a microtech mt-4 what i'd need to run, or similar... Quote
NickZ Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 a microtech MT4 would be great but youll have to get the handset with it..if it doesnt have it you can still buy the handset from microtech but costs about $150. a microtech digi 1 or 2 will also do the job i wouldnt pay more than about $200 if there is no handset. the MT4 will sell aroung $400-$600...lots are for sale without handsets and you wont to be able to program them. http://www.microtechefi.com/ Quote
NickZ Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 I just checked the site...the hand controllers are only avaliable for the new computers... so if the mt4 doesnt have one or and of them your looking at don't buy it....any microtech before the LTxxx are also not laptop programable. YAY i was wrong about the handsets.....I have a mate with a LT8 and printed on his handset is MT series and the whole kit was ordered from microtech. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Nice work, can't wait to see the turbo go on :) Quote
NickZ Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 I can't wait either. Ive got one problem to fix yet...The injectors are way too small. Ive had to wind up the computer almost to max on all fuel adjustments. So I'm on the hunt for bigger that will fit... Quote
Nitephyre Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 yeh the mt4 i saw on ebay didnt have a handset... so it's not worth it? also i have no idea how they work, how to program etc... there was also a holley projection 2D on ebay, but i couldnt find much info on them either... heh efi is seeming to be harder than i thought, but still.. :) any info yet nick? NickZ Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 the turbo is a T25 Garrett...i bought it of ebay in very good order for $125 :) MT4 Thats the computer I looked at so add $150 for the handset I think it was about $500 so $650 maybe a little high...you would have to have the book to tell you how to program it....i think i read my book about 20 times before i started to understand the load maps etc. I went for the D5 coz its easy to setup...there is a D3 on there as well i was going to buy but is gone to $100 and its not worth anymore than that as it doesnt have the wiring loom but it doesnt need a handset....shame its not a tassie based club and you all lived here coz i could wire it for you free all you would have to do i supply wire and tape......Its is really very easy.
