Nitephyre Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I'm not overly worried about the wiring, what i know squat about is efi, how it's controlled etc etc.. so, are you saying that the standard ecu won't handle boost at all or just not very well? Quote
NickZ Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 Youll need a air flow meter (AFM) with the setup...I didnt get one with mine...yes it can handle some boost maybe about 3-5 psi but don't quote me on that...the AFM will mesure the air going through and give the right amount of fuel. when going into boost The turbo will suck more air through the AFM and the computer will supply more fuel to a point there will be a limit. NickZ Posted March 14, 2004 Author Report Posted March 14, 2004 Just fitted a new radiator VS Commodore...should keep it cool...was a easy job so anyone could do it. just have to mount it a little to the right. The bottom pipe lines up perfect and you just have to make the top pipe a bit longer. so as you can see it will fit.:) Quote
NickZ Posted March 14, 2004 Author Report Posted March 14, 2004 yeah its a big radiator, but it is only a single row core. the temps stay a little lower then standard around town thanks to thermostat. i did take it for a long drive up hills tonight and the temp would normaly go about halfway but it didnt go over standard temp :). I put in this radiator for when the turbo goes the engine will need better cooling then. Tomorrow ill go get a thermo fan and cable to relocate the battery so i can get some cold air to the air filter. Quote
Teddy Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Wow - Thats inspiration for any 4K Motor Owner  :o :) Quote
Teddy Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Um for some reason it doulbe posted, and deleted the same message from my last post and put this 1 in ... But anway - Great job on the motor !!!!! U HAVE to get a sound file of it running and a lil rev :) Quote
Medicine_Man Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Damn, thats some impressive work you've done so far! keep it up :) Quote
demuire Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Very funky, so doesn't look like a 4K anymore :) I wish the radiator supports in the KE35 were a bit wider, they are really narrow so there isn't any real good in putting a wide radiator like that one in it (as half of it would be blocked and get no airflow anyway...) NickZ Posted March 14, 2004 Author Report Posted March 14, 2004 heheheheh...my grinder didnt have a problem making the hole wider :) it did loose a bit of strength ,but as the radiator is back a little I'm going to put some angle down each side to fill the gap so I wont loose air going around the radiator it will have to go through it and that will give the strength back. NickZ Posted April 4, 2004 Author Report Posted April 4, 2004 Its turbo time :P Going with the standard exaust manifold as ANGELA in South Aus (220hp out of a 5K Angela) put the turbo on the otherside of the motor and has run a pipe from the standard exaust manifold to the turbo so ive done the same but put the turbo on the same side as the exaust so its a shorter run to the turbo. If my wife doesnt stop me from working on it through the week I may have it going by the weekend :D Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 angela's car is putting about 170hp down at the treads now, or ~225hp at the engine. that's still with a stock diff by the way (she doesnt do burnouts, she says the funnest part is stepping the back out changing from 2nd to 3rd). that's with the old turbo's fuel map too, she had it booked in to get tuned again last week. her biggest point of restriction now is the head, in particular the size of the valves there are A12 motors with GT25 turbos making in the region of 250hp, and they're really similar to K motors. so it's do-able Quote
rockinrolla Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 yeah its a big radiator, but it is only a single row core.the temps stay a little lower then standard around town thanks to thermostat. i did take it for a long drive up hills tonight and the temp would normaly go about halfway but it didnt go over standard temp :n:. Where abouts in tassie are you, I have a couple of KE20s and have a 5K and intercooler, but need the injection and a turbo or supercharger to finnish it off, would love to see and hear how it runs. I'm at Richmond Quote
