parrot Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Not so sure about that. In a box of some sort or not, there are still fuel vapours and oxygen. So if it will catch fire, it is going to do so regardless of any enclosure. Quote
parrot Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 AUSTRALIAN DESIGN RULE 83/00 EXTERNAL NOISE UNIFORM PROVISIONS CONCERNING THE APPROVAL OF MOTOR VEHICLES HAVING AT LEAST FOUR WHEELS WITH REGARD TO THEIR NOISE EMISSIONS "The air filter is considered as a component only if its presence is essential to ensure observance of the prescribed sound-level limits." So from that, possibly not the reason. BUT, it would get down to registration and police interpretation of that rule......... And if so, you're screwed! Whatever, there have been multiple examples that have demonstrated conclusively that an exposed pod filter has numerous deficiencies and that boxing it in is a better idea. Quote
Raven Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Cold air will always benefit an injected engine. Carby engines work better with a little heat to atomise the fuel efficiently, so no point slapped a pod filter on a carb setup anyway. Quote

cinky Posted August 14, 2011 Author Report Posted August 14, 2011 in regard to noise level, its a Ford F100 with a 4.1 Xflow with extractors and 3inch exhaust with only one high flow box, i don't think a little bit of induction noise is going to matter. but also I think having a big ugly pod filter in the engine bay will mess up the classic look that I'm going for but depending on what height i go for there may hae to be some hood mods to make it fit as there current filter is only 2cm away from hitting the hood Quote

Sorry to be picky Parrot, but on petrol powered vehicles 83/00 is on applicable to vehicles manufactured from 2005 onwards Thats the thing about ADRs. Manufacture date is key. When I presented my 2/76 Honda to the EPA I learnt that the first pain in the arse pollution laws kicked in 7/76. Got a sniffer in the bum and nothing else. With an open air cleaner. The same friggin thing I got the canary for! Quote
