camerondownunder88 Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 SUMP oil pump mounts exhaust inlet head work Gear box mount Gear stick mod Pretty much it. Simple really Quote
philbey Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 There's a reasonable amount of work in that. From my point of view, the modification to the oil pump and the sump will be the trickiest. Quote
ke70dave Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 whast the advantage anyway? besides more room for side draft carbs? people seem to put side draft carbs on slanted 4k's successfully. (a tad pressed for room pending size and filter choice...) Quote
Millaz88 Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 What's the head work that needs doing and what is that plate for? Just asking Quote
snot35 Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Well you wouldn't technically have to do head work, but as you're uprighting it to improve the breathing it would be a little pointless not to. If you're following the TRD guide then we're talking about oversize valves (38mm and 33mm) from memory and then all the extra work to ensure you can use that extra breathing. This means larger ports at the manifold face. The plate is there because the stock head design uses a limited number of bolts that are shared purpose, i.e. all the bolts clamp the exhaust manifold as well as the intake manifold. This isn't so great when you start stressing the engine more, along with having the extra weight of side draft carbs on longer manifolds. The plate is bolted down with the old bolt holes, then add extra studs for securing the intake and exhaust manifolds. It's all a hell of a lot of work, you'd only want to do it if you really really want to fit into a particular category of racing, or really really really want to be unique. Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 What happens to the gearbox?? Does it get tilted towards the driver so the gearlever needs to be bent sideways and works at a strange angle? Yeah, seems a lot of work. While the tilted 4K is a pig of a design, you could swap to an upright motor like a 4A or a T just as easy as uprighting it. LOL! Even a Datsun 1200's A series would be easier! Quote
TRD ke70 Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 The intake runner length was a huge advantage!! = more torque!! Quote

camerondownunder88 Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Hi, There is a listing for a K50 with twisted bell housing but NEVER seen one. When engine is up righted pushes gear stick towards drivers so jsut a matter of bending it away from driver. Up righting though puts gearbox drain up higher so if you need to remove gearbox oil easier to pull bottom plate. As for plate it is to do as said above give better inlet length and more bolts to hold it all together things get heavy adn carry a lot of load when they are so far away from the motor. Bit of insperation below: To give you an idea of length (photo makes them look small) from base plate to top of trumpet is 298mm. With no gaskets so with gaskets about 300mm so make inlet long and STRAIGHT :) Also for TRD motor improves oil drain back off the K motor head to sump a HEAP. Cameron Quote
snot35 Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Oh that is some nice gear! :) Did you get the plates made yourself? Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Nice hear yes. But both those sets arent home made their the real deal. Plates would be easy as to make at home with a mill easy. Quote
