philbey Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 I had a turbo bluebird wagon that got bent thanks to some dopey haggis. It had a reasonable amount of work done to it, CA18 turbo, engineered in Victoria etc, but it just didn't look anything fancy. When it came around to getting assessed, I put together a list of detailed costs (engine, wheels, engineering costs etc) and I also managed to find a couple of examples for sale on the web. It's not as simple as cost ratio; if you can demonstrate that there's work gone into it and that it would be difficult to replace, you might get it paid for. Failing that, they will give you a write off value and will also give you the option to salvage the wreck. here is all the vicroads info for registering a previously written off car: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/WhatHasToBeRegistered/Written-off+Vehicles/ Quote
kickn5k Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Shannons FTMFW!!!!! I automatically have salvage and it's insured for more than it owed me as of 3months ago. Told me they'd be happy with an almost 20k agreed value when it's turbo'd, trimmed and painted. Stu. Quote

Millaz88 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) Have a look into www.rynoinsurance.com.au I got a quote with them super good price and insure any mods as far as I'm aware I'm covers for 14x8" when I get them back in a month or so and supercharger and lowered and h/d springs and shocks Also once the car hits 30 yrs old you get auto salvage rights Just a thought Also can pay monthly so easy Cheers Miller Edited August 8, 2011 by Millaz88 Quote

Yeah mate thats how it works. It was insured for 5k with mild 5k and twin su's. Then I told em it was blown, efi blah blah, left it at that price. When it cam time to renew policy they rang and advised me that the car was "under insured" Offered me $8500 which I said yes. But was probably just an upsell I suppose. Haha shannons would be the only company that would know a 4door like yours even existed. Stu. Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 that's cool I looking for a efi to put on me wagon ATM and do work to 5k with sc14 .. Then I'll be calling them again :) Yeah when I called them to insure 4 door they said we have It listed but for another country I told them it was imported to Australia 23 yrs ago and also has been restored bak to the factory condition it was released in japan .. They want to see it so I gonna drive it to hea office in Brisbane next week .. Although it is insured for quiet an amount , I still don't think i could find another one in the same condition let alone another 4 door for the amount insured for .. Quote

Guest pmp16 Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Don't know what go is with that mAte .. But in there eyes maybe a ke30 with sr20 isn't worth much ? Maybe since everything is modded with defferent engine and driveline it's devalued the potential value of car ?? I don't know :-s Quote

Timofee Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Depends on what company it is, mate of mine has an eh holden, insured for 40k someone cut them off and made it a repairable write off, but because the damage price exceeded the value of it at the time (didnt have all the fancy shit to up the insurance) it was an economical write off, he was then able to buy the car back off the insurance company and fix it in his own time, did it all himself so it was on the cheap, looks good in the end, but a old school corolla not being the high market value they will probably declare it a write off but you should still be able to buy it off them for a low price and get it fixed :) Quote
warrenfromtonny Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 bit of an update i settled with the insurance company. got 1800 and i get it fixed myself, car not written off  thinking i'll be getting some shannons insurance with the change. also another note; if the car is written off, both repairable or economical, the owner only needs a rwc if the car is over 15 years old to get it back on the road. no viv or list of repairs completed on the car. just thought i would share that, saves you having to be on hold for 55min with vicroads to find it out for yourself. cheers matt 1 Quote
