warrenfromtonny Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Hi i used to own a nice neat KE11 until some bloke in his Parado dicided he wanted to run it over. The guy is in the wrong and has admitted it and his insurance is going to take care of it. but my car was in primer as it is a work in progress, but had never missed a beat and passed a roadworthy 18 months ago with all new steering and bushes. Having a quick look around, redbook and carsales only value the car between $1200-$2700, i've spent more than that on the car in the last 4 years to get it on the road. looking at the damage; drivers front quarter pannel, drivers door, and just behind the door are all squashed in (the gaurd is more than 4 inches from its original position), the inner door handle (plastic at top of door card) and the chrome strip resembles a pretzle. my concern is that the car will be written off. the car still drives fine and there is no damage to the sill or anything structural, exception being the door hinge mount. taking to get it looked at around 1pm today. wondering if anyone has had experience on this and what sort of result should i expect. sorry i don't have any pics as my (not so) smartphone has also shit itself. cheers matt Quote
coln72 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) If you are only insured for market value, that is all you will get. Yes it sucks but that is the way it works........ Maybe you can negotiate to get the shell back off the insurace company if they do write it off, as it would only be worth scrap value to them any way. Not as if a hundred wreckers will be fighting over a KE11 at an auction :) Edited August 8, 2011 by coln72 Quote
warrenfromtonny Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 just got back from the guy. he thinks it's a write off. needs new gaurd and door. thinks i might get around $1000 and can keep the car. far short on the expectation i had. Quote
BUZ440 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Does sound about right, mine is insured for a 1/4 of the price it was to build it, they wont replace the whole thing, they will just cut a cheque and been done with it, you should look at buying it back also Quote
Millaz88 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 I'm fairly sure you can refuse the offer and make them fully repair it and then if you spent some cash on panels and parts you could save enough to have the panel beater to paint it I had a friend with a mini truck with the same problem and ended up with a full respray So don't take the insurance guys first offer Cheers Miller Quote
warrenfromtonny Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 yeah i'm looking around at the moment for replacement panels for the car. this could reduce the fix cost and make the insurance cover it. as far as i can see after the gaurd and door are replaced the cost to fix should be minimal. the reson they see it as a lot of damage is because they wont replace parts just repair the bent ones. cheers for the support will keep you updated as it unfolds cheers matt Quote
BUZ440 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Mind me askin who your insurer is by chance?? Quote
warrenfromtonny Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 personally I'm a poor uni student and can't afford insurance. so answer; none. however the guy who hit me his insurance is with racv and that is who the claim is through. Quote

All my cars I make sure are agreed value and salvage rights I'm not wrong or my friend would have a written off Holden rodeo twin cab... It was uninsured at the time also with 10s of thousands of $$$$ spent on it with a full air bag setup and body drop when she was rear ended It was repaired and repainted end of story now it was a stuff around and did take quiet a long time to get done but it all worked out in her favour in the end Miller Quote
warrenfromtonny Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 yeah i'm in melbourne. sent a pm before about a guard, just after a drivers door, and the chrome strip that runs all the way down the drivers side(not urgent). Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 makes me wonder y it was covered with air bags in first place :hmm: must be one lucky person to have it repaired if was classed right off Quote
Millaz88 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 It was all engineered but had a dodge paint job She was hit in the rear so the custom tub and cab were both stuffed but chassis was fine The repairer quoted for a new tub to be modded to suit and a replacement cab body dropped to suit without pait something like $8000 and the insurance tryed to just pay her out around $7000 she said no as the car had had so much money spent and threatened to go to court and they caved in she supplied the new tub and cab the panel beater/ painter did all the fitting and paint So worked out well for her I'm not saying you will be this lucky but if you can get them to at least not write it off and agree to repair it and you supply the parts you can usually work something out with the repairer so you come out of it better then you went into it Miller Quote
warrenfromtonny Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 cheers for the help. managed to get a door and guard, pending payment and inspection. going to see if the insurer will pay for them to be preped and put on the car otherwise i will just take them for what i can get, then do it myself...
