AE92-4AFC Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 I'm going to convert the old carby to a 20v silver top. I'm getting a complete engine. I figure I'll need a new fuel tank. I was wondering that if I got the engine, fuel tank, after market wire looms, ecu, chip, and ignition is there anything else that needs to be bought. Is the Accel/Brake/clutch ok to keep or need to be replaced. Drivetrain/dif. The flywheel and bellhousings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering if it would save a lot of hassle to buy a halfcut? Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Btw I will be getting aftermarket ignition, ecu, pod filter, fuel pumps, fans and radiator so I won't be needing help on those Quote
Sam_Q Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 now we have a 20V conversion thread already but thats for rear wheel drive converts and this is for your ae92 I assume? Quote
Twinky Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Keep in mind that not all gearboxes have the same clutch sizes. Match the flywheel/clutch combo that goes with the gearbox, not the motor. Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted August 1, 2011 Author Report Posted August 1, 2011 It's for my ae92. I'm sick of the lack of power the carby engine has. I have been thinking about grabbing the sx gear box and a lighter flywheel. Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 half cut is the way to go for sure. Buy an ae93 fuel tank, then just swap everything over from the half cut of an ae101 or something. It's a fairly easy job with no cutting or modification, or atleast there shoudln't be Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 and you will get the better gearbox with it and better brakes and driveshafts. Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted August 4, 2011 Author Report Posted August 4, 2011 Is it a difficult process changing engines over and installing wireloom and ecu, where could I fit the ecu? Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 if you have never worked on cars before then yes, for someone with a bit of experience no, just time consuming. Ecu would go where it's normally put with the 4afe model; under your radio. Quote
ke70dave Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 pending how much capital you have behind you...it will probably be ALOT easier buy one with a 20V already fitted. or sell yours and buy a 4afe or 4age, and then put in your 20V or you might even be happy with the power of those EFI engines. that way you already have the bigger brakes, fuel system and what not. you could put one into yours, but its going to require alot of parts collecting, which will all add up $$$$. or, find a smashed car with all the bits on it you want, thats a good way to buy parts too! AE92-4AFC Posted August 5, 2011 Author Report Posted August 5, 2011 Yeah I was contemplating buying an AE93 SX with a silver or blacktop. Its probably going to be a lot cheaper if I sell my car for $1500 as is and buy one for $3000. Quote
