Rolla__Boy Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 This would need to be engineered. You are going to need to modify a tailshaft. I doubt the corolla one will slide straight into the datto gearbox. Quote
Redwarf Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Do we "legally" need to blue plate this? LA1 engine LB1 Gearbox. If you upgrade the diff (smart move) LD1 as well. Quote
charlie835egg Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 LA1 engine LB1 Gearbox. If you upgrade the diff (smart move) LD1 as well. I need a link to the blue plate thing I think. Have to have a search of Qld transport. But if anyone's in the mood what does LA1, LB1, and LD1 mean. Also haven't got the car to look at but was stanza a coil sprung. I don't remember seeing leafs, nor do I remember looking tooo hard either. Additiaonlly are Stanza's a slight bit wider on the wheel tracks?? I did look at the front strut towers (of Stanza) and they looked puny in comparision. Is this a optical illussion, or is this observation true. I really need 2 car's,; my corolla the Stanza a tape measure and me to be all in the same vicinity at the same time. I'll just have to hope for a bottle of spare time for Christmas eh. Later Charlie835egg Neat trick up in here... Yup... you guessed it... :) I guessed it. Good. I did alot of guessing which ones true; Hydro clutch, shifter hole, blue plate.... Quote

jamesrolla Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 (edited) Ummm.... not just any L18 head, you need one marked A87, they're the good one's, and if you're building any half decent Dustbin engine, that's what you'll be using. You use a particular con rod too, most commonally found in L26 (maybe 24's, can't remember) engines. There's actually some really good books on how to build hot Datto engines out there, some really good reading. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Felix... :S when building an L motor , in an L16 u use 240z and not 240k pistons because 240z ones are flat top and not dished like 4 cylinder l motors, putting an L18 head on a L20 is not really worth it as they have smaller valves, a L24 is a L16 with 2 more cylinders and L18 is L26 and so on. I'm with redwarf about keeping the L20 as i think it would be better in the long run and most 4 cyl l motors rev the same as my L16 will rev to 8000 and it goes up there a lot when I'm racing 80hp isnt much as an L16 was rated at 96hp from the factory??:P thats just my opinion and sorry for bringing up old threads cheers james Edited June 1, 2006 by jamesrolla Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 James, valve size is definately an inportant issue as you said, however the L20 head has a very bad chamber design, and even the standard L20 engines have major pinging problems. Try the 180sss head, if you can find one!! They have big valves. Quote
Redwarf Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 My understanding is that they have "A87" marked on them..... Quote
