ramithorn13 Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Hi Guys, I am new to this forum. My wife is getting a KE10 from her family which they have had since new. It has been sitting on the farm for 10 years under cover. I need to go to the farm and try and get it started so I can get it back to Brisbane to restore. Any suggestions on which parts will most likely need to be replaced just to get it started. I only need to try and get it started so I can get it transported. Thanks for any advice you might have! B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Replace the battery, leads, plugs, oil. And cross ya fingers. Id see if you can turn the engine by hand before hand. Quote

67Rolla-Ken Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Hi Ramithorn, I think pmp16 missed the bit at the start that said you want it moving so you can get it transported. I seem to remember a not running car costs more to transport? What Reed said (+ maybe grab a working carby??), if that doesn't work either pay more and get it transported as rolling or grab a running K engine (most likely 3K) and swap it over... that's a fair bit of work to do out in the paddock though. Guest pmp16 Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) sorry ken i didnt miss the bit at the start !!!!! n as u said at the end if u try everything and it don't work just pay more for transport and also quote " it is alot of work to do in the paddock tho" i also managed to read where he lives mate ( morningside brisbane ) thats only bout 900km from where car is, so its bit hard to just get another engine slap it in ( whilst sitting in paddock as u mentioned ) start up to just put on transporter just to save a measly $350 at the most . so yes i can read i was just saying what i would do from past experience with dealing with cars that been sitting so long ..although might be in luck and could change few things n she start up eventually once fuel into her .. but just remember clean out the petrol tank cause it wouldnt like the shit that will be floating around from 10 yrs of rest Edited July 24, 2011 by pmp16 Quote
GJM85 Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 I'd get a tractor or truck and skull drag it to the road. Then get the cheque book out and sign off about $900. It would take the act of Satan blowing Jesus to get that old girl kicking. Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Before you go up ask someone to take the plugs out and turn it over, either by hand or on a battery. If its frozen then you don't have to even think about starting it. My Armstrong Siddeley was like that, the rings froze to the bores. If it turns over, then I would take a tin of petrol instead of drawing from the tank, a fresh battery and some engine start. If it fires up then change the oil & filter. The carb is quite likely blocked up with shit, so the idea of a spare carb is a good one. Of course the clutch plate is quite likely rusted to the flywheel by now, so no clutch is the next problem. altezzaclub Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Forget it! Ask a clubmember in Cairns to go take a look at it for you and give you a report on it! That's what Rollaclub is for!! Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Where's that members map at? Perfect plan Altezzaclub :) Don't you love it when someone "quotes you" and adds grammatical errors. I wasn't having a go at you pmp16, I didn't realise you were so sensitive  Quote
GJM85 Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 I had a ke55 brought down from caboolture to brisbane south side last year, cost me $300. The dizzy was 180 deg out, the fuel looked like mud and was just as flammable. It took ages to weed through all the problems before it would start. I believe it sat in a guys back yard for 10 years before I got it. Once it ran it seemed like a great car... Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 not sensative mate .. the guy just asked for opinions and i gave mine from past experience .. u just had irrelivent post being smart on the computer regarding my outlook on situation ... Quote
parrot Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 If you are not precious, I would put about 20mls of oil down each plug hole, and leave it as long as possible, at least overnight. If you can then turn it over by hand with the plugs out, put some fresh petrol in and give it a try. I started my KE15 up the other day. Hadn't run for 2 years. Once the float bowls filled up, started and ran no worries despite old (but not 10 years old) petrol. Quote
