AE92-4AFC Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 I have the AE92 4AFC seca carby. I blew up my clutch completely the other day. I was wondering if there was a cheap stage 1 sports clutch that would suit this car. If so where would i find one? Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted July 23, 2011 Author Report Posted July 23, 2011 yeah well i was burning it pretty hard in a race against a ford falcon lol. gotta say i won the race but lost the clutch Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted July 23, 2011 Author Report Posted July 23, 2011 but has anyone got any ideas on the clutch? i would rather buy one new instead of ebay, i personaly don't trust ebay Quote
Boosted Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Exedy street wise clutches. They do a nice fibre pucked clutch that hooks up nice without having a heavy action or agressive bite like proper race/brass pucked clutches. Distributed thru Adelaide Clutch, but probably one of your local mechanics has a hook up. Or call Adelaide Clutch and ask who's in your area. Be reasonably kind to it and should do the trick nicely. Interested to know how you lost the clutch on a drag, did you just side step the pedal ? Quote
ke70dave Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Just go to your local parts shop and buy one.......repco, bursons, supercheap auto, auto 1......take your pick. Exedy heavy duty will be fine. Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 did you just side step the pedal ? Yes, what happened to the clutch? Tear the fabric off? Rip the core out?? We used to have the clutch shop glue and rivet the fibre on, and double the steel center disc for the rally car. Quote
Twinky Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Interested to know how you lost the clutch on a drag, did you just side step the pedal ? School holidays remember.... Anyway, it happens. All I know is that replacing the clutch on a FWD sucks hard. Quote
VBlue Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Is it really wise to be doing that with such old cars? Unless yours is heavily modded and can stand that level of abuse, drag racing the 4A-FC is not that great an idea either, granted it has surprising power for a 1.6L. These things usually start to have a domino effect, after you replace your clutch you'll probably find your head gasket has blown. :laff: Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I have used these guys and found them to be really good!! Grip Force Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 I stuffed the clutch by dropping the clutch around corners. I find the way I do it it stops the rear end from sliding out too much. It sounds as if there is oil in the gear box when I rev at 3-4000 rpm. There is also oil in the engine bay in the corner closest to the driver side. Down near the oil check and fluids. I havnt investigated that properly yet as I havnt had time. But thankyou for all the clutch ideas I will definitely have a look at those ideas. The worst part is I seized the engine of my last corolla and decided to start from scratch bought the car and blew the clutch 3 days later. Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 The worst part is I seized the engine of my last corolla and decided to start from scratch bought the car and blew the clutch 3 days later. Lol!! Love it! Is this giving you a hint about the way you treat cars?? There is also oil in the engine bay in the corner closest to the driver side I'm not familiar with working on the AE92, but that suggests the front crank ol seal has gone. It sounds as if there is oil in the gear box when I rev at 3-4000 rpm. and dos this mean oil on the clutch to make it slip?? So the rear crank ol seal has gone too. Sounds like a new clutch and replace both seals, you'll only know when you pull it all apart. ..and some driving lessons at a racing driver's school!! Quote
Twinky Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 lol dropping the clutch around a corner?? To stop the rear end from slipping out on a naturally understeering car? This is pure gold.... Sounds to me that you have been constantly over revving the engine. Doesn't surprise me that your previous engine seized as they generally seize from oil starvation. Which is generally caused by excessive revving blowing out oil seals. There is no need to be dropping the clutch around a corner unless you would like bits of tree decorating your car. You should know what speed the corner can be taken at and feather the throttle around the corner. It really sounds like you don't care about your car or motor so I wouldn't be surprised if you blow this one as well. Quote
AE92-4AFC Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 I had bald rear tyres at the time. On a slippery rd rear end just went. I'll be getting the gear box and the engine removed today or tomorrow and I'll post the problem back up. Quote
