As the mods will tell you, go to an engineer, get them to look over your plans, if they intend to approve it get them to write it up on paper so you have something to fall back on.

No one can tell you if it legal unless they are a DOT approved engineer.

Best of luck with the conversion if you go ahead with it.

Straight answer is yes,

Mine is fully engineered in QLD, Welded Cage, Harnesses, Engine, Diff, Brakes, 2 seater

How deep are you pockets will be my question to you?

oo.. alright then so I'm guessing i have A lot to plan still haha. but thanks guys. and for the guy that asked how deep my pockets are.. would u have any idea how much it would actually end up costing me like complete and on the road.,...

hey... sorry if this is a "noob" question.. and I'm not really looking for another link... but with this sr convertion... it would be easyer to pretty much just get an sr20 half cut and transfer pretty much the whole thing right? ( i know no where near that simple) but is that the general idea? please don't roast me...

you don't need the whole halfcut though to put it into your ke70.

if you were going to be transfering it into a silvia, then i woudl suggest a halfcut.

but in a ke70 you are going to be throwing most of the half cut in the bin. you dotn need powersteering stuff, aircon, intercooler pipes etc.

you only need engine and gearbox, ecu and loom, the rest is custom made.

given you are a noob, ill give you a quick starter list on what you need to consider.

-engine, gearbox, ecu, loom - if you go an early redtop SR, id budget around $1300-1500, if you go a late model black top, expect 2000-2500 (especially if you go the s15 6 speed)

-engine/gearbox mounts - if you can weld, can be very cheap, if you have to get someone else to do it, expect about $500-600

-wiring engine - DIY quite easy, paying someone $300 maybe.

-intercooler piping, DIY easy (buy exhaust bends, weld it up), paying someone, could be $500

-exhaust, something decent, about $600

-tailshaft, custom made,400

-differential, if you go and mod an R31 diff, with an aftermarket LSD, expect upwards of $2500k for the conversion

-fuel system, full surge tank setup, $300-400

-hydraulic clutch system (either an ae71 pedal box, or custom) - allow say $200

now onto suspsension and brakes.

sooooo many options here, but i would be allowing $1000-1500 for suspension, and $1000 for brakes, assuming you go for brand new/overhauled stuff where you can.

now add all that up you get about $7k paying people do to stuff, probably $5 DIY most of it, and add %50 (10k or 7.5K) and that is about how much its going to cost to do the job properly.

you really need to research alot for something like this, understand what options there are, and make your decisions based on your budget, your needs, your skill level.

good luck eh.

if you do everything i stated well, do a good job you will have one wicked car to drive. have a look at NISROLA's build thread for inspiration, not a ke70, but a sweet sr20 conversion.

Arrrrr thanks mate. thats exatly what i wanted. some sort of list haha. your a champ man and also thanks for goin easy on me haha I'm still learnin

no dramas.

we put a ca18det into my mates ae86 a few yrs ago, did pretty much everything DIY (found a few good parts along the way to make life easier)

it was a rocket to drive. and it was pretty much a stock engine with a bit of extra boost. unfortunately all CA18's are stuffed these days, and require rebuilds. one day i'm going to do a proper sr conversion into something old and light. as much as i hate to admit it, the SR is a brilliant engine, the power it can make for bugger all mods is great.

Heath come to the cruise on the 31st and you can have a look at mine and ill answer any question you may have,

Dave hass given a great explanation there,

perhaps they should make a pinned conversion thread of each with a list

also...

7k-10k is alot of cash to put into a car.

so you almost have to do a good job to have any hope of having it lasting and be reliable.

no point having $7k worth of project car sitting in your front yard, that never drives and always broken, because you did a half assed job.

times that by 4, haha

That is correct, thats where project cars end cause of the money side of it then start cutting corners, when you could buy an EVO then get dusted by a little corolla then wonder, why? haha

...and it WILL cost $10grand, which you will never get back when you sell it!

So you have to be absolutely dedicated to the idea of a super-fast Rolla and be happy that every kilometre you drive has just cost you an extra dollar. If you own it for 20,000km then each Km only costs you 50c extra!

4age into ke70 costs 4-5k to do it properly.

i can itemise if it you like, but there is alot more too it than most people think.

I'm not saying sr20 is a bad idea, but you need to be committed. it makes much more sense to sell corolla, buy an s13 for 5k, add a few mods, and you will have a more reliable sr20turbo powered car.

also 16V bigport 4age is good fun, but i would be inclined to go for something a bit more powerful if i did another engine conversion. go a smallport 4age as a minimum, 20V would be the way to go for N/A. or go a GZE. all have varying additional costs.
