theres a few things you can check first.

 

as mine just died on the weekend also.

 

check both connections at gearbox and speedometer are secure.

 

remove speedo drive from gearbox check teeth.

 

if all ok, remove cluster, remove speedometer, check mechanism.

 

you can buy a new cable for $46 genuine from ebay.

 

speedo drives are the same across early corollas.

 

finally if needed ask around for a new speedometer (whole cluster)

thx for the reply scott ill take a look at the cable it seemed allright at the speedo end so I'm guessing it would be the gearbox end thats loose.

 

and the interior pics prob isnt worth showing just yet lol less u like seeing some ripped seats and no carpet =P

but when its all replaced ill show some pics asap!

Lol when I did the engine conversion to mine. We were jacking the crane hardcore wondering why the engine wouldn't lift out. Looked under and the speedo cable was stretched to ʞ©$ɟ. Still works though :)
