sterls_ke55 Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 hi I'm having abit of a issue with the timing on my corolla just changed the timing belt but b4 i took it off the crank was at top dead centre but the cam gears were out by 1 tooth and it ran but it ran very rich so i changed the belt and set the cams back to top dead centre now the car will not start and while trying to start it back fires out the exhaust and intake can someone help me its a 20v 4age silvertop Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 hmm.. if the cam is in correctly, how about distributor timing. That will cause backfires. However, seeng it was running until you moved the belt, you'll have to go back over it carefully and make sure it is cam timed correctly. Was it firing number one or number 4 when the piston/crank pulley was at TDC? Does it have unequivocal marks on the cam gears so you cannot get it wrong? Do the gears move when you tension the idler pulley? Quote
