gags_17 Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Hey guys I think I hae just about exhausted all my resources! I have pretty warm 5k in my Ke10, the motor is brand new hasnt been run but has sat around for 5 years not doing anything, all this time it has sat with no push rods in it, the bloke i bought the car off is an engine builder/reconditioner he gave me rods with the car and this is were it gets tricky, there apparently 5k rods (hydrolic lifters) but wehen there installed we have no compression because the either the rods or the lifters are to, when the rocker assembly is is bolted down with a 3mm gap on the posts we can get compression and get the motor running! the rods i have are 155 mm from longest point to longest point of the ball tips, and the lifters are exactly 51mm in total size. from what ive read the lifters are correct, does this sound right to anyone? I'm thinking my other option could be to convert to a solid lifter and adjustable rockers out of an early k motor? sorrry for the essay guys hope it makes sense cheers :D Quote
Twinky Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 There was two different sizes of rods, sounds like your rods are the longer ones. Can't remember off the top of my head of the actual lengths between the two. Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Any evidence of the lifters being jammed from sitting around for years? The lifters collapse to the same length? It does sound like a mix of the wrong pushrods and lifters. Quote
GJM85 Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 If your running a dished piston 5k with hydraulic lifters your pushrods length should be 150mm ball to ball. K Motor Pushrod Collaboration Quote
gags_17 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 thanks guys :D I pulled all the valves out and apart and cleaned em got them working properly they still like new :D Where do i locate the lugs on the head to no my piston type? If It is the push rods were will i be able to buy some from? cheers Quote
gags_17 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 Just wondering if i was to change to a solid lifter set up off a 4k will it affect my cam? Quote
GJM85 Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Just wondering if i was to change to a solid lifter set up off a 4k will it affect my cam? 4k lifters have a different diameter to the 5k. There is also a difference between solid and hydraulic cams. The issue your having isn't because of the lifters. The pushrods you have are for the flat top piston 5k which has a 6mm taller head, hence the 6mm longer pushrods. The rods are around. Try the wreckers. Quote
