springersrolla Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Gday, probably not the most common question on her cause its got nothing to do with how to get more power, just how to get better economy, currently running ke70 auto, totally bog stock, fresh service, all new fluids, plugs etc.. head has just been fully reco'd just got 413km from 37lt. this is pretty consistant running on 98 octane, 12deg advanced timing, majority highway driving with diff gear singing at a nice 4.3:1. averaging around 11lt/100 ---- corrected to 8.95/100 any advice on what will help reduce consumption?, not interested overly in changing gearboxs or diffs, exhausts as a mate drives it,just wondering if anything can help lower consumption cheers Edited June 23, 2011 by springersrolla Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Put 95 in it. Or even 91. 98 is useless in a stock 4k. 10c a litre cheaper. Done. Quote
springersrolla Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 it runs like a bag of shit on/and e10 kills cars. not concerned on the cost, f@$k 10c a litre is 3.70 down the track, I'm chasing more mileage. also the tyres are 175/70/13's I'm guessing a set of 15's would help Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Not saying e10, that shit is gay as. I used to use 98, dropped to 95 and got better mileage and dropped to 91 when the price went up higher. I get over 400km a tank on 91 with a 5 speed manual 700,000k engine POS 4k with extractors and a 2 1/4" that I thrash the balls off. 98 is for performance vehicles. Evan G Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 id NEVER have put 91 in my freshy built 4k. always 95/98 and i can feel a difference between the two! i recently done 300 something km to 18L of highway driving. with a weber and a couple of 100mph pulls Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Must just be my sad old 4k. I easily get over 400km a tank on 91 (not e10) I'm thinking 400ish might be the average. Edited June 23, 2011 by blzbub666 Quote
rian Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I used to get over 600km out of a tank with a 4K and K50 5-speed, autos just suck. Make a hydrolysis tank and feed it into your air intake so it runs on hydrogen and petrol, I've seen engines with them installed and I've heard it makes a good improvement in fuel economy, and I've heard of engines almost running entirely off of crummy home-made hydrolysis tank thingies. If you can be bothered it might be worth looking into. Quote
GJM85 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 413km from 37L is equal to 8.95L per 100km. Quote
springersrolla Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 correct u are. need to work on my maths obviously, still curious to see if i could get to 500km from the tank at least Quote
Evan G Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 i reckon i could get 550/600 if i drove like a granny. but 450 driving like a spaz is also good Quote
GJM85 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Try running a 3k pre-pollution carby, they use vacuum secondaries, and putting a block of timber under your go pedal so you never get more than half throttle  500km to 37L = 7.4/100 & 600km is 6.1/100km. Entirely possible if you use angel gear, set a up sails on the roof and boot and cut flinstone holes in your floor. :P Edited June 23, 2011 by GJM85 Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Km per tank?? WTF sort of science is that. FFS measure how many litres you put in at each fill and write the Km on the docket. The blue Rolla runs a trip between 7.5L/100km and 8.0. Around town I get 8.0 to 8.5. So if a tank is 45L (wouldn't have a clue!) that will do 560km on average. We got 6.5 when we first put the 5speed in and threw out the auto, running a stock engine and driving 1000km at 80-90kph... with L-plates on! The 7.5 to 8.5L/100km is with a cam/SUs and exhaust, so it should chew more than stock, its a shit sight quicker! I use E10 all the time with compresson around 10 to 1. Try the hydrogen injection, but really you won't get much better with an auto! Quote
springersrolla Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 altezza my fuel method is identical to how u say, fill it up, drive 100km see how much ive used. i can only fit 37lt in my tank before the fuel comes out the filler, i couldnt get more accurate each time. first time i ran 100km i got 8.18lt, probably 40% highway/60% street. it now runs dominately highway drives and i think the 4.3 is giving it the dramas, sounds painful as sittin at 110 but happily sits there all day. ive heard about hyrdogen but couldnt be f@$ked i;ll keep driving it and see how it goes. the auto is no doubt the problem, but its advantage is it wont let it rev Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Ah- OK, your sample is a bit small at 100Km. I drive until the fuel light comes on, so I'm sampling over 430Km or so each time when I fill up. The 4.3 diff is a pain on a trip, I still have one in mine. The 5th gear is so much better than the 4speed we first put in though, and both are better than the auto!. What's cheapest?? Manual conversion or diff change? Anything to drop the revs at 100kph. Borrow a 4.1 off someone in Brizzy and see what difference it makes! The rim size change ups it a little, but usually the tyres get smaller profiles so there's not so much in it. 16s would be a jump... Quote
