RABBITS Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) G,day all,can any one tell me if they no of any one lifting a 89-90 SR5 4WD Corolla . I would like to lift it 2 inches or more like they do with the subarus, can this be done ? & what would the wheel stud pattern be 4x100 ? . Cheers Dave Edited June 23, 2011 by RABBITS Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I think you're swimming in the opposite direction to everyone else here! They want lower! You would have to consider what would happen to the suspension angles, as well as the legality of it. I don't know if there are laws covering how high you can raise a car, like there are for lowering.. As it goes up you will get more positive camber and the wheels will tuck under as you also lose toein and gain castor. Castor and toe you can fix, but unless you can add camber back in, it will lose handling capability. I don't know whats in the rear, but if its a beam axle, which I assume it is, it is simple. The limit may be the angle between the axle spring base and the body spring base. Stick a jack under it and watch what happens. Then start chasing longer springs and shocks. We're thinking of a family trip to Lake Eyre and someone suggested borrowing their '87 Tercel 4WD... Quote
abbott Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 With hilux etc legal lift is 2" in most of Australia as far as I know. Quote

I was thinking there might be castor bushes and some sort of spacers ? like they put in other cars & 4bys that get lifted that would correct any angle issus.I would like to do a bit off soft offroading and do some trips outback.I like the SR5 as it is different. altezzaclub Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Probably the best will be Sigma LCAs, as they add plenty of camber. The spacers you need will be the opposite of rollcenter adjusters, a spacer at the bottom of the strut and above the LCA. Somehow you need a spacer to lower the LCA pivot at the crossmember. Have you got adjustable castor rods running to the front like a KE70, or some other system?? Edited June 23, 2011 by altezzaclub Quote

RABBITS Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Thanks Rob,some great info there.I am glad it can be done & I will be useing this thread to help me do my AE95.Has anyone out there done mod,s to there AE95 & were have you taken it ,(trips away, camping etc.).I to will be looking at bigger wheels and tyres once the suspension has been sorted & fitting new engine down the track .As mine is a auto I will look at fitting a large trany cooler & beefing up the auto trany as well, then there is the diffs to look at.People have said to me why I would wast my time on the AE95 corolla,& I say its because its different, they look good, with the different engines that can be fitted it will be a good performer as well.Anyway thanks again for every ones input and hope to here some more.
