KErolla Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 ok guys after a lot of thought i was thinking that y are 13bt not leagel in old rollas. but that are able 2 put a 13bt in the mazda 1000 utes or the lil datto utes ther lighter than the rolla so i just don't get y the u can only put a na 12a in a rolla isted off anny thing biger . :D Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 i agree totally. you can put a turbo chook cooker into an R100, but you can't put a naturally aspirated 12a into a ke25. stupid Quote
KErolla Posted November 6, 2005 Author Report Posted November 6, 2005 thats what i thought cos my mae has a mazda 1000 ute and with out a motor it is like 750kg on a way bridge and now he got a 13bt witha t66 bolted on and the f*&%ing thing hammers but i just can't work out y u can have a 13bt in a lil ute but not a rolla just my 2 cents :) Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 not who you know, who you blow....... Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 it's not even that. you CAN still register a v8 gemini, or a 13bt corolla, or whatever other crazy car you want to build. you just need to put ALOT of work into it, and engineer the car as an Independantly Constructed Vehicle but the testing and certification ALONE for that is going to cost you 10 grand or more, never mind building the actual car, which must comply to all CURRENT applicable ADRs. think of the amount of money it would cost to make a 1970 corolla as safe as a 2005 model you may as well take that money and spend it on something that already goes and handles, and you can sell for more than a few thousand dollars if you ever have to Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 The mazda 1000 utes have full chassis, in QLD this means it fits into a completely different catagory for its weight, as compared to a mono-constructed corolla. mono construction under 1100kgs is weight times 2.5 for turbo motor capacity. chassis is weight times approx 4.5, (id have to look it up), much more fun! Corolla_Kid Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Or you could just do it and hope you never got pulled over. (not suggesting anyone do this though as insurance would gf@$k you over if you had an accident. Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 driving a defect gets tiring after a while, the constant fear of police, and if you had an acco and killed someone, or permanently disabled them, your life would pretty much be over. worth the risk just to have a fast car? i don't think so Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 I've been driving a defect for 9 years now, it is quite stressful Quote
rolla13bt Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 just move to Tassie. it's legal to have a 13bt in a ke55 down here. Quote
oke020 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Yep stressful it is, i only really drive my ke20 to and from various events, for awhile i had a mates mazda 1000 on the build, had a 1uzfe sitting between the rails, checked with transport and found yes it was legal in qld, not as potent in NA form as a 13bt but still lots of motor for a tiny car. Quote
styler Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 as has been mentioned, its a case of having a full chassis which allows a bigger capacity, thats why small lightweight utes are used, they have a full chassis and are allowed the bigger motors. some older mazda's have been given some rotary engine swap approvals due to them being mazda's and an easy conversion, even though the same car would not qualify under the weight/capacity rule. if you can get it engineered it can be done, but it costs a lot, ie like jamie said by submitting an indepently constructed vehicle. i would never drive an illegal vehicle, from crashing into a bmw to killing people in accidents... not being covered is pretty stupid. Rolla__Boy Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 If you're not living on the edge...You're taking up too much space, as they say :) I have never had insurance either, which may seem stupid to you too, but a 17yo trying to insure a 351 Falcon just doesn't happen, and so I just got used to not having insurance. I have had one accident and it cost me $500, so out of 9 years driving, I think I am doin ok Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 we're talking about third party compusory insurance if you crash into someone's expensive bmw/merc/shopfront and cause lots of dollars of damage, which you can't pay off, then the court can't get anything out of you and that's just bad luck for the poor bastard whose posessions you have damaged. at the end of the day it's only money driving a defective car voids your CTP insurance as well, so if you're in an accident where people are harmed or killed or permanently disabled then they and/or their families get NOTHING at least if your car is legal and that happens, the poor guy who can't walk or work or get laid anymore gets monetary compensation from your insurer, so he can go on with a decent life of some kind i don't know about you, but i couldn't live with the guilt of knowing i ruined someone's life and they get absolutely nothing from it, because of me. not that i would have much say in the matter, busy being in jail on manslaughter or something defective vehicles. think about it Quote
