abbott Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 ok well i just picked up a ksev for up my mates property. i struggle it home stalling and generally being a ke70. well my problem is i got it home and parked on my street (downhill) with front facing downwards. ok so quick run down the last owner has put in an after market fuel pump which does the job as far as pumping fuel goes. the problem is that the old fuel pump is still bolted up and all and there is one fuel line still going to it and when i park it down the hill fuel is feeding into that line and coming out the old pump and leaking everywhere. when i pulled the line off it just dribbles out everywhere. naturally i turned the car around and the problem stops. I'm a bit unsure what to do. i don't care if your idea is dodgy as long as its safe and its not gonna set on fire haha. i know the question is vague and stupid but its dark and I'm tired. if you have nothing useful to say please don't comment. any help is greatly appreciated. cheers tom. Kid-Ae Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Find a screw or bolt and plumb it for the night. You fill that hole temporarily so it doesn't go boom till you can have a squizz at it? Quote
7shades Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Get a brass tap with barbed fittings inline on the fuel line. And then fix it properly Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 So they have bypassed the old fuel lines but left them intact? With out plugging them ? So the tank is open to atmosphere through a return? line. Whatever the issue plug it up! Though the Mythbusters proved a lit petrol trail can't catch up with a car so you'll be sweet :P Quote
Twinky Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Oh wow that is dodgey................... Go back to the fuel tank and block the line off all together then. I would assume that the new fuel pump has a separate line? Quote
ke70dave Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) sounds to me like you need to rehash the entire fuel system. why is there an aftermarket pump? if you want to keep that, i would be removing the stock one completely (blank off plate out of alloy) it sounds to me like the previous owner may have used the wrong lines for the pump, and thus the line that is open to atmosphere is below the level of the fuel, and thus it comes out. if i remember correctly there is 3 lines in you tank, suction, return, breather. the suction is the lowest (obviously), and return extends about half way down into the tank, and the breather only extends maybe 5-10mm into the tank. if the return has been used as the breather, then if you have enough fuel so that the return is submerged, when the fuel tank pressurizes (due to temperature changes) it will force fuel out the return = fuel everywhere. it can build up quite a bit of pressure, i had a dodgy hose clamp and it started to leak because of the pressure. similarly if the return is used as a breather and it is submerged, then as you say it may syphon fuel out of your tank on a hill, which may be what you are experiencing. a quick fix may be to leave your fuel cap cracked open, to allow air to escape that way. give it a go, it may work, may not. time to pull your fuel system appart (pull the thing out of the tank with the pipes attached to it), figure out what pipe is doing what, hook it all up correctly with proper fittings, and you should be good to go!
