ae824ate Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) Gday guys, my 35W 6000K HID kit will be in my '55 in a few days. Wanted 4300 or 5000k. Just curious, and yes i did search, how many people have done a HID setup before on their rolla, and how satisfied were you? Yeah yeah, i know its illegal to do it on a car that wasn't manufactured with it, but i drive mostly early morning and late night in the country. 2 of my mates have done HID setups, and never been hassled by the cops. Let us know. Thanks, Luke. Edited May 14, 2011 by ae824ate Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 from what i hear in qld, apparently without factory self leveling suspension it is illegal, will defiantly be better than the standard lights if you fit them, your call.. Quote
clubby2084 Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 from what i hear in qld, apparently without factory self leveling suspension it is illegal, will defiantly be better than the standard lights if you fit them, your call.. Â 2nd that. While m u c h better than std lights, a guy I worked with fitted HID lights to his import Supra and, it was defected less than 1 month later. Back to std lights for him. Bummer though. Looked great and they lit up a like a power station. Quote
7shades Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Yup.... Illegal, for a reason, and I hope you get defected. Â Regards; People like me who are sick of being blinded by shitheaps with cheap chinese headlights their car wasn't designed to run. Quote
_FNQ_rolla_ Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Yep they are illegal,  I did think about HID for my little old bomb, but then I do not want the hassle from the :fuzz: and or even a defect (Maybe I’m getting older). Just buy some descent replacement lights that’s what I did.  All the best. Quote
Chillin Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) I'm also keen for details if anyone has done this conversion, price, cost and availability. Are they also avaliable in the ke5x square light form? I've been told autobarn can order them in? Â yes, it will bring more attention from the 5.0 but thats my choice. 7shades Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Valid point... Â Just try not to get offended when I see your HID's coming towards me and respond by firing a couple of Hella Ralleye 4000's directly into your retinas. Â Â Cos y'know being an inconsiderate c*nt is also my choice. Quote
19914afc Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 I hate HIDs!!! there so annoying when coming towards you!! I think ill have to get some of those spot lights too. I have some brighter bulbs and they are better than the old ones, then just get some spot lights if you want heaps more lighting where ever you go! Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 HID's in 4WD's behind you stopped at the lights, feels like you are getting sunburned and totally destroys your night vision. H4's are fine. Quote
jono1986 Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 I think it should be how white they are and not how bright they are.....for the same money you can get an IR setup and see for 100's of meters.... Quote
rian Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 http://www.ke70.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1856&pid=10720&mode=threaded&start= Â This seems to be a pretty good solution to crummy corolla headlights Quote
Evan G Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 h4 square headlights for my ke55 were $6 each from my wreckers. I'm wanting to do a 5000k 35w hid conversion soon as i can't see shit at night. they got new globes in it and still doesnt help. Â don't go more than 5000k as they have a blue tint and still out like dogs balls, also make sure you adjust them properly after hid's Quote
Des Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Align your lights properly and they are ok. My ke11 has sealed beams with 40 year old relays/wiring and with properly aligned/aimed head lights and its reasonable. I'd happily go country with it apart from the fear of cleaning up roo's and hares. Quote
ae824ate Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 Yup.... Illegal, for a reason, and I hope you get defected. Â Regards; People like me who are sick of being blinded by shitheaps with cheap chinese headlights their car wasn't designed to run. No need to say mean things. As i stated i know they are not legal. The kit i have ordered, and used before are not stupidly blinding HID's that some people choose to use. This depends on the kelvin (K) temperature of your bulbs (the colour it emmits) and also the power discharged from the ballasts. Why is it, whenever someone says HID, people automaticly think of overpowering blinding blue or white light? And power The low beam output from the kit ive used, and will be using is as comparable on your eyes as good set of halogen bulbs (slightly whiter). People that want to run their mouth, have a read about how HID works. A good read. Quote
greenmac80 Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Evan buy some 'crystal' headlights and some +30 bulbs and you'll love it.. my setup is the same and the lights are better than my 2002corolla. Quote
