st.nick Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 Remember when the Corolla Sportivo came out?? The slogan was: "Corolla by name, not by nature." Any thoughts on exactly WHY Toyota chose this slogan?? (Corolla History Buffs will get it straight away) f@$k I laughed when I saw the first advertisment using this slogan... Marketing Genuis Thoughts??
Redwarf Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 Probably because, sadly, the rest of the country considers Corollas to be, well, about as interesting as penguin snot. Ladies and gentlemen, it is up to us to correct that impression......
mumblezzz Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 Yeah I didnt get it at all either. They're basically saying that corollas are boring shopping trolleys... Never fear! I'm doing my part to dispell the myth. :(
Super Jamie Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 pfft, what do they know!? for corollas to be slow common cars they'd have to have small engines and have production numbers in the hundreds of thousands for each model and - oh hold on a sec :( or maybe they mean the new ones are unreliable and easy to kill
Felix Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 it must be hard to market something that looks like a toaster....
Jason Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 dosn't corolla mean flower? correct me if I'm wrong might probly just internet bullshit
Super Jamie Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 yes, that's true. before 1968 when toyota released the ke10, the world "corolla" was purely a botantical term, and had been for a very long time by definition, the corolla of a flower is the part it uses to attract insects to the flower, for the purposes of getting them to spread pollen. the corolla is divided into segments, each segment is called a "petal"
ancullen Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 So Toyota were basically saying that the new Corolla was a flower by name, but not a flower by nature - ie it wasn't really weak in it's nature.
Super Jamie Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 to me, they were referring more to its' reputation as a common plain slow small car. sure, i love the damn things, but they're not exactly a rare or exotic performance car by any means it's a saying that's pretty open to interpretation. it means what you want it to mean, like art :(
mumblezzz Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 A lot of old toyotas have a name that relates to part of a flower. Corona, Crown etc.
st.nick Posted October 29, 2005 Author Report Posted October 29, 2005 yes, that's true. before 1968 when toyota released the ke10, the world "corolla" was purely a botantical term, and had been for a very long time by definition, the corolla of a flower is the part it uses to attract insects to the flower, for the purposes of getting them to spread pollen. the corolla is divided into segments, each segment is called a "petal" CORRECT!!! Give the man a Freddo Frog!! :) How'd I know you'd get it Jamie!! :( Next one: Why are the 'Hot' versions of the Corolla called "Levins"??
mumblezzz Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 Levin being the greek word for lightning. Whats also interesting is that trueno is the greek word for thunder.
ancullen Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 Never knew that. Thunder and Lightning, that's pretty cool actually.
st.nick Posted October 30, 2005 Author Report Posted October 30, 2005 Ahh... I didn't know that either!! Apperently Levin was the name of the racetrack where the first Corolla racing victory happened. Not 100% sure tho
