hey guys well i bought a 5k head tonight, I'm fairly new to cars so i don't know everything, and i saw something i havent seen before and I'm not sure if it is repairable.

below is a picture of the head i bought and one of, one cylinder in particular which is the one in question,

as said above i want to know what happened to it, how its caused and if its repairable.

cheers for any help guys.

Looks like the head is cracked around the valves and ity appears to have been welded around the spark plug hole. Looks uck-fayed to me....

bad news is it in bad condition. check with a engine place but as previously stated if you compare to the other cylinders its not looking positive. the other issue is it may be repairable which will be pricey but could be too soft which would mean its a throw away job :bash:

Hey buddy.

Sorry to not be helpful, but it's not even a 5K head. It's my old 3K head that I sold to another dude on here. The damage on that cylinder is from that motor ingesting some metal and it bouncing around for a while. Either way, it isn't going to work on a 5K unless you're thinking about boosting it.

It does have new exhaust guide liners in it. My plan was to get it decked a fair bit, but I've since gone in a completely different direction.

Just use a 4k head from a flat top motor.... unless you have the dished 5k bottom end in which case you should by shallow dish pistons from acl. You could then use a 4k head and have a relatively good CR. I get around 135psi or 9.1:1CR. You may then also have to source diffference pushrods becuase there is a rough 6mm difference between deep and shallow dished heads.... depends what you have currently and I don't know what you have...

yeah its the dished piston engine! was either looking for a dished piston 4k head or 5k head. so you reckon a flat top piston 4k head would work or not? sorry for the questions!

No, it will lower the compression. I think there might be one for a dished piston 4K, but they're hard to find. You're probably better off with the 3K head ironically, but even then it will still be too low compression wise.

Hang out for a 5K head if you can, or swap pistons, head and pushrods as mentioned above.

At least you're able to swap it!
