HIGH ROLLER Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Hi all, about to pull out my 4a to give it a clean up and paint. after some advice and experiences from you guys/gals on what brands of paint and methods of prep/paint to use. Engine will be stripped down to just Block & Head (not seperating). Only interested in doing the block in standard black. Advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark M Quote
philbey Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I used Motospray on mine, held up pretty well, some bits lifted but I think that was my prep. If you get a block dipped, put paint on it immediately, it's bloody hard to clean rust off a cast iron block. Quote
Twinky Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Basically almost any High temp engine enamel should work fine but as philbey said it's all in the prep work. Getting all the grime off is the hard part. As soon as the crap is off paint it as soon as possible. Try to paint on a hot day indoors as the metal will be warm and paint will bond to the metal better. If you paint on cold metal it has a good chance to crack off when dry. Quote
HIGH ROLLER Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 Thanks guys. I've been reading good stuff about "POR15" brand engine paint and prep materials...anyone had experience with them? Quote
