lukemo1982 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 g'day just wondering if it can be done and how much is involved with an engine out of a 77 model celica ta22 into a ke30 :hmm: Quote
parrot Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) Have a bit of a look around with the search button. Most people look at putting 2TG's in which is the same installation wise as the presumably 2T single cam engine you are thinking of putting in. Only difference will be more clearance around your brake master cylinder / clutch master cylinder if you are doing a 2T and it retains a downdraft carburettor. Main thing is the need to modify the engine mounts. I'm sure there is a KE30 with a 2TG in the rides thread somewhere, and numerous queries about 2TG's into KE 30's/KE55's in the tech threads. Edit: If the donor is a 77 model, would probably be a TA23. But make sure it isn't an R series engine in an RA23/RA28 Edited March 30, 2011 by parrot Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Also have a look at the factory power of your existing engine (4k), and the celica engine (2t). From memory you would gain about 2hp at the flywheel. Quote

If you want to slap a turbo onto a 2t or 3t however.... http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/16233-toyota-pics-from-puerto-rico/  Quote
19914afc Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 much more aftermarket support for 2t and 3t engine, also a nice mild 2TG should go well in a KE30. Quote

Jono.C Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 It's not so much the power either it's how it's delivered. I prefer to look at how much torque an engine has, as that's what throws you back when you plant it. Also a 1.6 would have more potential than a 1.3 and the t50 is a fair bit better than a k40.. oh what a nissan feeling! Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 well this was the first conversion i did to my ke30, a 3t engine. It had a small cam, extractors, twin carbs, ect. When i finally got it going after a few months of effort, disappointed hardly begins to describe how i felt. Yes do a twin cam, or turbo if you like, but don't bother otherwise. Quote
parrot Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 My old stock bottom end 2T in a TA22 with a mild cam, ported head, twin webers and 2 inch exhaust put out the same power as my mates stock 2TG Quote
coln72 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Why not look at a 7K??????? 1.8L of goodness :) and a fair bit lighter than the 2T boat anchor Quote
lukemo1982 Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 thanks boys I'm juz trying to decide on a easy conversion but want more punch as it only has stock 3k bought car off old lady whos owned it since new has 70,000 original k's on it with the 4 speed manual i love this car just a bit slow! silverra23 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 the 2t-c motor in stock form is a truck motor... don't waste your time and effort.... if its an old lady car it probably needs a few good long runs and some runs through the hills to clean out all the carbon deposits in it. you would be amazed what a difference that can make along with a good tune. you would also be amazed what a 4k or 5k will do to it without a lot of effort or farking around :) 1 Quote
19914afc Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 at least 2t has an alloy head, but 7k would be relatively easy. 1 Quote

parrot Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 the 2t-c motor in stock form is a truck motor... don't waste your time and effort.... I'm not sure that I would agree that a 2T isn't worth pursuing if you intend modifying, but certainly, I wouldn't make the effort if you were going to keep it stock. Whilst it is a relatively simple conversion, even if you have the ability to do most things yourself, it still requires mount fabrication and engineering certification. 1600cc engines respond well to the usual mild/moderate modifications as mentioned above. 1800cc comes easily with a 3T bottom end and 2 litre engines are well documented if you want to spend some money. Ample torque available there. Certainly 5k and 7K transplants are standard fare nowadays, much simpler and well documented. Quote
