TE278U Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 sold my nice 67 ke10 couple weeks ago to the right bloke for 4500. he plans on spending about the same amount on it again to redo the interior and have it resprayed. Quote
mattress Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Some very valid points have been made however there is merit in going the other route also. I have seen people buy supposedly big dollar cars which turned out to be rust buckets. If you buy a slightly dinged and rusty example and either get some experience fixing it yourself, or pay a shop to do it, at least you know it's done properly. Not everyone is out to buy and sell cars and make money. Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 yes last post is very true its always gamble u take i guess .. sometimes u can buy someone elses problems ... me personally unless i know the person that built car i am bit hesitant on paying big money for nice one .. much rather build one the way i want to Quote
parrot Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 I bought my car without actually looking at it, although I had watched an extensive thread on the car with detailed pics and descriptions of its problems. When it became available, the seller was very upfront about what it looked like needing, and I very willingly jumped at it with every expectation of needing to strip down and rebuild the car. I paid a very fair price on that understanding. I have since spent a great deal of time and a reasonable amount of money sourcing the various parts for that build, which basically I now have. Personally I would be very nervous of paying the money commonly asked for, to get a 'restored car' with new paint etc. I would rather spend the money having the job done myself, at least then I know what the paint is hiding, and the prep work that has gone into it. I would never by an incomplete KE1x though, except as a spares donor. Unless you were planning to modify it pretty extensively with different running gear and interior. Decent parts are just too hard to find. Quote

I brought a rolling shell HQ Monaro GTS Coupe a few years back now. Everything except motor and box, and some little interior bits. I was lucky to find all my doubles and spares before the "Monaro" craze    Quote
parrot Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Anything GMH is a different kettle of fish than KE1x's. The fun is in the same place as all the spare KE15 seats! Quote
ke11restorer Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Lol yeah yeah. Might be onto a KE17. So depending on what condition that is in.. will dictate whether I do up a ke15 or ke17. However I'm not too fussed. Trimmer can probably make some standard ke11 ones look like sprinter. What was the headrest you used? Golf yeah? Quote
parrot Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Yes. Golf Mark 1. Slipped straight in and looked like they belonged. Would love a set of the option headrest items, but doubt they will ever turn up. Don't worry, if I ever come across some seats, you will be the first to know. Quote
