abel00 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 hey guys. just wondering where you can get steel rims modified (widened). and what sort of price am i looking at. or where can you buy custom rims. cheers Quote
SLO-030 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 there are few places that do it. What state are you in? Quote
Des Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 i was quoted $170 a rim but thats rather steep in my eyes. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Ryan You know where I am and I would be interested to know where in A Town we can get this done. I want a full set done for my AE93 Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 i was quoted $170 a rim It used to be quite common but cheap alloys have killed the industry. Its easy to get wrong, they have to cut the rim, weld in a perfectly circular ring of steel as wide as you like, then weld the rim back on. They have to have immaculate gas-tight welds and the rim has to be concentric and turn true in all dimensions. $170 probably buys an hour and a half. You can see why alloys took over. Quote
philbey Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Adelaide wheel and rim works or Extensive wheel works, opposite one another on South road, just near BOC gasses. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 ^^^ not anymore actually, that method is no longer legal for road use. They buy blank outer rims in desired width, and remove your centres to fit to the new outer in the desired width and offset. Quote
Grand Master of Awesome Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 ive heard that you can't get widened steelies balanced properly? Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 ive heard that you can't get widened steelies balanced properly? that was a problem- that method is no longer legal for road use. and that was the solution. Buying a wider rim section makes for a better quality wheel. If they made enough of them they would be cheap, but there's just not enough demand. it will be interesting to see what they look like if you get them Abe. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 The place in bris sells the outer bands to the public for $55- $60 each , 5" to 10" available, i priced that a few years back though. A mate of mine got a set done for his lj, they look very factory. Quote
abel00 Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 so where can i buy these bands and who can i get to do the work?? Quote
7shades Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Do Neales Wheels still exist? I remember back in ye olde times you could order steelies in pretty much any combination of centre, width and offset... Quote
Bamboo Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 In ye olde times in Vic, ajax wheels bayside were the go. The company still is there, they still redrill, but I'm unsure if they still widen steelies. Still, it's another place to try. Quote
