WET.K30 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 I have moved along and fitted an electronic dizzy, one that KE Motorsport sells. Certainly cleaner at low revs or when cold, and I just added advance until it felt OK. Today I plotted an ignition curve, and I found I was running 18deg static advance to make it get up and go! So I've reduced it back to 8deg and plotted this- One set of figures with the vac unit on, one with the vac unit disconnected, and a Piper dizzy chart for comparison. That is what the Honda Accord uses, and is similar to the other dizzys mapped here- http://www.jcna.com/library/tech/tech0015.html I think the car feels much better with more advance early on, and I wondered who has had theirs re-mapped, what the curve looks like, and who really knows what changing the curve does in each sector... Can't be spending thousands on a K engine then have it pull like a van ahah Quote

I'm actually a little surprised by the setup that I've just received. Bosch body with an optical sensor plugging into what looks like it might be a CDI box? Then it hooks up to a Bosch HEC coil. I always thought that K electronic ignition was Denso and hall effect or similar, not optical. I'm told it works, but haven't had a chance to try yet. Edit: Actually, what I have looks exactly like this. A bit of an initial search and it looks like a Bosch kit, part EK40. Can't find more though. Hopefully that means my dizzy is still from a 4K and the advance hasn't been ruined! Edited March 21, 2011 by snot35 Quote

It appears that parts are probably no longer available, so if ever goes bang that's probably it. On the bright side it should mean that I've still got a suitable 4K ignition curve, so it should run pretty well.
