garyroopan Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) i have a 83 DX KE70 it is the model show in the link below (thats not MY car ) i would like to know what suspension modifications could be done to it , i have read that on this model the ae86 front struts and rear shock can be bolted on directly however the front struts would need tierod ends from the as86 as well , this is the first toyota i have ever owned , i have been in to mazda,s previously (rx2) , i have a 11-second 12a all motor rx2 drag car with stock chassis , i am currently planning on putting a 12abp in to the corolla and then setting it up for drifting , how ever my first objective it to get the car suspension changed to something a bit easier to get shocks for any advice would we nice thank your for your help in advance gary http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=58094 Edited February 27, 2011 by garyroopan Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 You can also use xt130 corona struts up front. http://www.ke70.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83 Quote
garyroopan Posted February 27, 2011 Author Report Posted February 27, 2011 You can also use xt130 corona struts up front. http://www.ke70.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83 OK i am from Trinidad And Tobago i don't have readily access to corona parts i do how ever have acess to the parts of the following any datsun ae86 any Mazda rx hillux old mistubushi lancers / galant My plans for this car i am going to put a 12abp rotary N/A or turbo (not sure yet) in it . I alsos want to put power steering also , not sure how this is going to work out seeing that the exhaust is on the same side with the steering box linkage , i want full suspension upgrade ( for drifting ) i will use a rear end form a hilux to handle the power of the rotary so no problems there my main any advice on what route to take would be nice . LittleRedSpirit Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 AE86 struts give a good brake upgrade and allow you to use better shocks as the ae86 has a large aftermarket range available. Use the steering arms aswell with the struts. You can use basically any suspension part from the ae86. AE86 may well have a better diff than the ke70 too. If you can find a jap ae86 to wreck then it will have a t series 6.7inch crownwheel diff with an lsd if you are lucky. AE86 diff bolts right in, unlike Hilux. Hilux diff is overkill until you get to a certain level of power and torque. How much power you looking at making? If its an NA rotor it might not make a tonne of torque at any given instant, turbo rotor would be a different story. Quote

seabiscuit Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 N/A would mean that you'd have great throttle response for drifting. N/A is cooler anyway. Every man and his dog run turbo's these days. Probably the best bang for your buck diff upgrade would be a T-series Corolla diff. They came in Jap AE86's and also TE7x series corolla's. The TE72 definitely has them, however, due to the other TE7x models not being released in Australia I'm not sure if the other TE7x models do. The reason is you can purchase an LSD geared to suit drifting. Quote
garyroopan Posted February 28, 2011 Author Report Posted February 28, 2011 after some research i have a candidate for the ke70 rear end RN40 Hilux 2wd rear diff assembly. 4.3 ratio 30 spline axles 5x114.3 PCD 1410mm wide (Same as AE86/KE70) All i need to do is find one locally (trinidad and tobago)<- its an island in the caribbean hopefully this will stand up to the about 400+hp this rear end is not set in stone as yet as i don't know if its available however i do know that we have some old rear wheel drive cars in the toyota crown and the toyota cressida does any one have any info on these rearends ?? Ella Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 that hilux diff is a good one, have one of these to fit to My dx soon. Protip would be to take the whole front end and steering column from a AE86 and go rack and pinion. Stuff drifting anything with a steer box, and itll make room for your turbo manifold. Quote
stable20 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 is it better to use power steering for drifting or not? Quote
garyroopan Posted February 28, 2011 Author Report Posted February 28, 2011 can i use the powersteering setup from a cressida or crown ???? Quote
Ella Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 personally i wouldn't bother, power steer has a habit of boiling in drift cars. everyone i know in motorsport changes to manual racks because of this. need some pics of the beast mate! Quote
garyroopan Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 ok i was told that the cressida rack could work on the ke70 , i was also told that the ae86 rack and ps could work also , i think my dx has rack and pinion not the steering box so i am unsure as to if i should leave it as is or add the ps Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Forget PS. Its a light car and one of the joys of driving it is the feel you get. Powersteering would dull this feel. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Agreed. I love fighting my car around corners and the feed back you get in your hands. Sure its an asshole doing 3 point turns but Meh. Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 ..like those blouses in V8Supercars who need powersteering... :laff: I wonder how much feedback they get? If you watch someone like Lowndes in slow motion he can add precisely the right amount of steering when he kicks the tail out fractionally in a hairpin. He just turns the car quicker by over-steer and takes the lock off faster, you wouldn't notice it if you watched at race speeds. Quote
