Zaheer Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 @carbonboy. Really sad about your eye. take some rest. One humble request please come out of this wheel well now and work on roof. No one is going to check your wheel well but roof is more imp ... lol Quote
carbonboy Posted June 9, 2011 Author Report Posted June 9, 2011 What else will you attack on this car other than the sunroof and wheel well? Super impressed with the work on both, but there comes a time when you have to let go of the wheel well As in welding in rust-free metal? Hopefully that's it unless I come across anything I havent noticed previously. I would LOVE to be having a weld-in cage installed at this point but funds don't permit it & I really don't have a NEED for it just yet  Once the roof/topsides are primed, the car & buggy are going to be put up on stands so I've got a bit more room to move. Going to strip the entire underbody, prime it (NO bog here!! :no2:) then decide whether I want to go for paint, a thin-ish underbody protectant or a combination of both. :hmm: Contemplating silicone-sealed goggles for this :P @carbonboy. Really sad about your eye. take some rest. One humble request please come out of this wheel well now and work on roof. No one is going to check your wheel well but roof is more imp ... lol Thanks mate! :y: Have been resting, can't do much else :lolcry: Good news from the doc's yesterday, the 6mm x 6mm scratches on my cornea are now 1mm x 1mm in size! Things are still a little blurry but I can finally go outside!! I'm getting the feeling this wheel tub's gonna be finished being shaped, smoothed & primed in record time, yes that will be it!! Got another doc visit on Monday, so gonna play things safe & wait for the all-clear from them before getting into it again. They picked up some fine scaring that may take another week or two to fully clear up but my vision is up to scratch again (pardon the pun :laff:). I can work on car again, I can work on car again... :D Respirator -check Goggles - check Silicone gun with fresh cartridge - check  Edited June 13, 2011 by carbonboy Quote
Kid-Ae Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Does this mean the car will be almost done by next week? Quote
Kid-Ae Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Good point! I think he's not replying because he's busy putting silicone between his skin and his goggles and getting cracking Quote
carbonboy Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) :lmao: @ all of above :) I didnt actually get around to working on the car today  I got.....distracted by a for sale thread, so I'd like to put big shoutout of thankyou to EvilTwin from AE82OC & my other helper who's forum name I don't know :) I went for some window glass & ended up with so much more lol. That poor Twin Cam looked so molested after we'd finished, sad to see another white one off to be cubed but at least part(s) of it will live on :P Pics once I unload the car. I had dinner with parentals tonight, I arrived with a fully loaded car. They nearly freaked out at first when they thought I wanted to stash it all in their garage along with the boat & all the other stuff I have there. Edited June 13, 2011 by carbonboy Quote
carbonboy Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) I <3 accidental posting... Edited June 14, 2011 by carbonboy Quote
carbonboy Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) So this is what I managed to score: Grille. Passenger side mirror assembly & matching trim pieces to finally be installed on Blue Thing. I thought I had a spare from the parts car, turned out to be the same as the interior was...counter-sunk screws everywhere :bash: Drivers window regulator, in surprisingly good nick :) Hatch lights. Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo front seats with 'modified' rails. I've been told these are AE92 Seca rear seats, they look comfy-ish but still prefer the drivers seat  A full set of glass (what I actually went for), all tinted & in good condition  We couldnt be bothered pulling the glass out of the hatch :laff: Again, a big thankyou to EvilTwin & company for such a good deal & all the help! :y: I also had some other goodies arrive last week courtesy of another forums member :y: F-ing couriers were not gentle with them however :( AE101 superstrut (JDM as fork) calipers. Silly-car front rotors  Also have this floating around from an Ebay auction, amazing what you find when you're trying to make room for stuff :laff: Again, Ebay auction but thinking of painting it :hmm: It doesnt have any internal baffling but I've got an easy fix for that. Fuel pump for a Toyota Supra with a 7MGTE, good to see they're good for something other than blowing h... :) Bits & bobs from a Jaycar run a while back. No work on car today, otherwise occupied with child-minding, no TCCA meeting either :( Edited June 14, 2011 by carbonboy Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 what happens if like you put a wheel in the wheel well and like the bog cracks and that will be bad i think... when its painted are you gonna polish it? Quote
carbonboy Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Posted June 14, 2011 what happens if like you put a wheel in the wheel well and like the bog cracks and that will be bad i think... when its painted are you gonna polish it? I've already played with that  Tried my best to flex the metal in the bottom of the wheel well, not enough with 75-odd kilograms on it to crack the bog :y: If I were to strike it with a large blunt object it probably would, but I don't plan on striking my car with large, blunt objects :lolcry: Am I going to polish the paint job on the interior? Possibly :hmm: Quote
carbonboy Posted June 18, 2011 Author Report Posted June 18, 2011 So I decided I wasnt happy with the section that needed some lovin'...mind you this was just as I was just about to dust off/wash down for primer  Talk about your moments! So I bogged it :) After sanding for a bit, I bogged it again :D Then bogged some more after the bit near it gave me the $h1ts :lolcry: All dusted, washed with w&gr & ready for primer. First coat of primer. Fully primed. So after this, it will be a quick sand, a shot of spray putty or some blade putty to fill some scratches/pinholes, sand that back then a final coat of primer to seal it all. Then I can move on! Quote
carbonboy Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 Everybody loves getting bit's & pieces  It's the little things that count sometimes, 3 AE8x's owned & many wrecker runs completed, but I've never had one of these until now! A BIG thankyou to KEhendo, who saw my random request in the wreckers thread & came to my aid with a spare item he had :y: Sad/angry to hear about the whiskey bottle man, f-ing assholes like that can usually only afford VB :( Although I didnt actually make the 2011 GOR, damn last minute bail-out due to chaos with project car, I had paid up a deposit so I still got one of these :D I occasionally wear the 2010 shirt to trade school, I had one guy ask me how long it took us to run the GOR... :blinks: Uhh dude, we drove cars, Corollas even! :lolcry: Thankyou's go to dfunkt for holding on to it for me! Going to get a custom sticker made that reads 'I missed out on' to go in front of the 'Great Ocean Road Run 2011' sticker in the goodies bag  Quote
carbonboy Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 Sand back places that needed it. Apply blade putty. Add spray putty for good measure. Go shopping, eat dinner, come back & sand, dust off & wash with w&gr. Primer!! :D Sorry that this is a photo of a photo, but this is the car that probably started it all for me. I was at an Auto Salon in 2002...2003 maybe :hmm: & this stuck out to me from all the Skylines, Lancers, Silvias etc etc. Somebody put in the effort to build it & display it. No idea who's it was or what it was running under the bonnet, I just knew I liked it. Even though it's red! :lolcry: Quote
