ozyvr4 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Hi there guys, I'll start with my old ride tha is now owned by a memeber of this site. I owned built a ae71 panel van with 4age 20v turbo. PV 4age 20v - wiseco turbo pistons - standard rods - ARP head studs - Cometic gasket - steampipe turbo mani - tial 38mm wastegate - garrett gt2851 - ARE IC with custom alloy piping - custom airbox ( QTB retained ) - 3" exhaust - supra 5 speed - supra turbo side feed injectors - bosch pump. There is so much more, but new owner can describe. Some pics This is my recently purchased ae71. Full stock with a cracked head, so I also just purchased a 4age bp that will be fitted very soon & become the new daily to give the pocket a rest on fuel from the vr4. I will keep you guys updated on the build, but a couple pics. Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 wow, now while green isn't personally my thing your quality of workmanship is outstanding. Does that have one of my cooling kits installed? Quote
ozyvr4 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Report Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) The cooling system on the 20v I did most myself but the welding parts got done by a mate. Firstly I removed the thermostat housing on the rear & cut a plate & fitted the temp guage sensor & turbo feed pipe. I cut the pipe at the rear of the water pump & routed the lower section to the bottom radiator hose & the top pipe to the top radiator pipe. I plumbed the turbo water return to it. I also fitted an ae82 therstat housing (the 1 that bolts on the gearbox ) into lower radiator pipe ( I should have some pics at home. I used a excel standard radiator with twin 10" & it worked a treat. I had the 20v mounted in a rear wheel drive car since 1999. I had it in a 1971 GA Galant. That motor was then remove & fitted to the corolla in 2005. It was that long ago I did all that I forget the exact details of how I did it. I did check your site & you have some great stuff. ozyvr4 Posted February 12, 2011 Author Report Posted February 12, 2011 Started to clean the engine up up before install. Had the covers acid dipped to remove all the crappy paint & gave a new coat of red. Filed the tops of the letters back. Next will be a new timing belt & intake manifold acid dipped & painted ( & intake gaskets replaced ). Some wheels I havs had sitting around. I sometimes put the on the galant. Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 sounds really good, keep us updated with any more progress and pics if possible Quote
ozyvr4 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Hope to be getting the car home tomorro. Got a couple pics of it today. I hope to have the motor bolted in in a couple weeks, then mod the fuel system & find some headers. Quote
ozyvr4 Posted March 12, 2011 Author Report Posted March 12, 2011 Some progress on the car today. I removed the old 4ac block & fitted the 4age. Standard converter for the moment to see how it goes. I will remove the box & get a converter latter in the year after its running. I will start fitting the harness this week hopefully. Quote
ozyvr4 Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 Some more progress. I fitted the auto cooler & ae86 alloy radiator. Still have to fit an engine cooler, fuel pump & line but hope to get that done today. I also cleaned up the wiring to give the bay a clean look. I hope to crank it over next week, just need the time to finish it off. Quote
ozyvr4 Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 A Little more done today. I mounted the fuse under the front guard. I will have to build a splash tray for it so when it rains it stays dry. I also made the fuel feed line. I found a 3m length of 8mm ID steel pipe at bunnings that just needed some bending to run along the floor pan. It looks very neat under there. I played around with my spare VR4 wheels. I think with some lowered springs & lower profile tyres it should look good. Quote
ozyvr4 Posted April 1, 2011 Author Report Posted April 1, 2011 I thought i would play the images I had to see if a little atitude would help the look. Tell what you guys think. I think I will lower as soon as I get it going. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Low = good. Not a huge fan of slantys but that looks nice and clean :y: Quote
ozyvr4 Posted April 16, 2011 Author Report Posted April 16, 2011 (edited) A little more progress on the car. I've fitted a fuel pump inside the tank. I modified the pickup, with a 8mm out line. I mount a VR4 Galant pump to the old pickup line. I mounted the pump so the pre filter sitting flush with the bottom of the tank near the drain plug. I had to run wires from the pump the to top, so I used some studs & the insulators from the battery feed of an alternator. I put 3l of fuel in the tank & turned the pump on. I ran through a reg & gauge & got it to 70psi with no trouble. I don't plan on trowing this car around to savagely as it is going to be my daily driver to get to work & a cruise every now & then. I think this design will work great , if not I will look at a surge later. I will take so pics before the final fit up. Its getting close to start now. Edited April 16, 2011 by ozyvr4 Quote
