jonh ke11 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 can i put a ae71 complete cross member cut it down to fit a ke11 engine bay with a rack n pion setup has anyone done such a conversion? Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 yes I have done simular, although to a TA22 instead: http://s-86.com/s-parts-ta22rp.html whatever you do don't shorten the crossmember! well ok if you take the rack apart and shorten it in a lathe you can but otherwise no Quote
Des Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Ae71 member wont go without a lot of work. ke11 use a wishbone lower control arm with no castor rod. ae71 use a castor rod. Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Ae71 member wont go without a lot of work. ke11 use a wishbone lower control arm with no castor rod. ae71 use a castor rod. interesting point, however doesn't the suspension out of a ke20 bolt right in? Quote
Des Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 No, there is no provision for a castor rod setup unless you cut and weld ke20 sections in. Thats from what ive seen in my ke11 and ke20. Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 ah I see, sounds a bit time consuming. Although grated modding a ae71 crossmember and coloumn half to fit in is a pretty serious job in itself. There is a good reason I charge $850 for the job on the ta22's Quote
jimi91 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 I was told a ke20 cross member will fit with a little work into a ke10 or ke15 its the lower arms u have to mod ???? hmmmm :hmm: see ya jimi Quote
Des Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 ke20 arms wont work unless you use the castor rods which wont go with out work. Quote
jimi91 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 hmmmm yeah thats what i thought :hmm: see ya jimi Quote
Jordain Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Ke20 cross member bolts in, you need to find a way of putting the castor rod set up from the ke20 to the ke10. I'm not sure how this is done. I would say just mix and match some engine mounts on the stock ke10 cross member, take the leaf spring out and put some coil overs on with a strut brace and a sway bar. Will improve the handling a lot. Put an ae71 rack onto the ke10 cross member. Probably have to shorten it as Sam has mentioned. Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 putting the ae71 rack on the ke10 crossmember would be very difficult to do right and highly unrecommmended. A custom adjustable jig would be needed to be made off an ae71 crossmember to get it right. Quote
jimi91 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 hmmmm yeah i agree with sam it would be not as easy as just slapping in a rack it would be alot of work !! :hmm: see ya jimi Quote
phife Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Ae71 crossmember is obviously too wide, if you were to cut it down you would also have to cut down the rack or find a shorter alternative. This could affect ackerman angles etc, gets too hard to work out. Ke20 crossmember just fits width wise but mounting holes are a little out. I have done this and found it pushes the front wheels forward (caster). I couldn't push the crossmember back enough as it then fouls on the pitman/idler arms and steering linkages. Other pictures i've seen with this done confirms the added caster. Fitting a rack to Ke1# crossmember won't work too well because the lower wishbone arms get in the way. It could work if you converted the wishbones to common lca's. A bit of work involved, an engineer should be consulted. Quote
