t18drifts Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 is it possible for a TURBO CHARGED car to pull somthing close to 5 seconds i will get 50 bucks from my step dad if i can find a car that can :hmm: Quote
beerhead Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 5.8 second - twin turbo V8 quick enough? Quote
Deeken Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 haha that would technically make it a 5 sec car :P Quote
seabiscuit Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Your dad must be real old-school. Tell him they put turbo's on more than diesel's and 4 cylinder's these days :P Quote
madKE35coupe Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 i think this one would probably pull close to 5? Â Quote
t18drifts Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 cheers guys sigh now my step dad wants to see under 5s iisnt that strecthing it :blinks: Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Lets see your stepdad do the 1/4 in under 5sec... Quote
beerhead Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Well if he said "Close to a 5 second car" he owes you a $50. He should have said a 4 second car if he wanted one in the 4's. He is right though, all the top fuelers are supercharged, but this is mainly because of the corrosive nature of nitro-methane exhaust gas makes nitric acid that would probably corrode the turbo to liquid at 2000 degrees in a couple of passes. Â A turbo can supply enough air to match a supercharger, but you're limited in fuel choice, and methanol just needs more oxygen to burn, so you don't make as much power. Â What your step dad has asked you to do is find a top alcohol car that'll outrun a top fueler. Maybe comparing supercharged and turbocharged top alcohol car's is a much fairer way to judge the 2 types of forced induction. Quote
t18drifts Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 well the argument was super chargers are better then turbo and i stepped in to protect the turbo  ect ect Quote
beerhead Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Yeah up to a point. Ask him if he thinks he can make 800hp on a 4cyl motor with a supercharger? If he say's yes, he's dreaming. A screw charger capable of 800hp will use close to 100hp at idle, which yeah a 6L V8 can deliver, but any 2L 4 banger will struggle to do that. It just won't work with the needed cam size to make the power. A turbocharger on the other hand will just be a laggy whore until you hit 7000rpm and make a quick jump to 10,000rpm when as it comes on song. Quote
t18drifts Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 i like this peice of info :) cheers Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Fairly sure Top Fuelers are required by regulations to run a 14-71 blower, so it's not like there's a turbo option anyway even if it could handle the fuel. Quote
SLW42 Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Oooooooorrrrrrrrrrrr just tell ya step dad he owes you 50bucks as you filled his requirements and coz he got owned he just tried to make it harder, and i think a pissed off turbo hyabusa motor into a car would fly :) Quote
