Brake cleaner with a light massage from some 2000 grit paper is probably the best solution I found to take carbon build up off a piston.

Is that normal carbon build up over 15-20 years of engine use?

Do you need to pull your bonnet pins then pop the bonnet or do you not have a bonnet release any more?

Yea they still hot , don't know about the colour they look more brown then gold but I don't care really.

 

With my bonnet I just pull the release then pull the pins and to easy......they worked out really well too.
