Hi all, i just had a quick search, and was wondering if anyone has converted the ke70 cable pedal box to a hydraulic set up?

I have been looking into it with a mechanic mate of mine and he thinks it can very easily be done, as i refuse to pay $300 for hydro box :no2:. I don't see why it wouldn't either, as it would just be locating a tab of plate metal in the correct position and welding it onto the side of the pedal arm.

Let me know if anyone has done it and if it worked or not!

cheers

I have done it and your mechanic is full of shit, well assuming you want the master cylinder in the same spot as the ae71 model.

That's the short answer, let me know if you want the long answer

the pivot points between the two pedal boxes are different, to mod one I had to do the following:

- chop a third of the housing apart

- shift it up about 40mm and rejoin it to the main housing

- make some braces and weld them in the gaps

- make a new flange for the master and weld it onto the side of the housing

- modify pedal to have a pivot point which is much harder than it sounds as it's not even close

no you can't, uless your perepared to have the clutch master lower down you have to chop the thing and move it up.

Nice job there too, I need to ask you something about it on your thread.

I don't understand why you have to move the pivot point. The pedal feels fine normally, what feels bad about a ke70 clutch is the cable you use. Id have thought all you would do is measure the distance you need to displace the rod in the back of the master, then mount it at the appropriate height on the firewall to make that displacement as you go along the pedal. Worst case Ontario you would have to make a longer pin that extends the one on the MC. Is there something in the way there, why wont that work? Does it interfere with the steering aperture further down the firewall?

the one in my 1g ke70 was done the way the OP said, I'm pretty sure anyway, there was definately nothing as complex as what your saying sam, why does it have to go in factory position?

yes you guys are right you could in theory use the lower pivot point and it would save you chopping it in half, although it won't fit with some engines. It's just me being pedantic I guess and wanting things in an ideal way. Either way the pedal would require a fair bit of mods and a flange section welded on. I stand by my original statement it's not easily done but quite possible.
