78_7kRolla Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) So here is the recent addition to the stable. A 1986 AE82 Twincam that cost me $200. Basically saved it from the scrapper and the plan is to use it as a club car in events such as hillclimbs and motorkhanas. Car was cheap as it is unregistered and motor is in pieces as it was cooked by the previous owner. All the bits are there but in the boot and interior has been ripped apart as he took out his stereo. Definitely get stuck into it next year when I get back from holidays. Once I have it running i'll strip it out get club reg and see what it can do/how long it will last on the track! Here are some pics. P.S. everyone knows that red is faster :) the hektik dori-dori battle scars Weight reduction begins! Edited May 14, 2011 by 78_7kRolla Quote

78_7kRolla Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 hey man look good for a project. one problem did the previous owner have a accident? the engine is facing the wrong way? :blinks: lol I've had plenty of cars but this is my first fwd! Quote
Bamboo Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Nice work. Look forward to seeing the progress. I have had plenty of FWD cars. Just makes you more creative in the tyre selection & pressure department. Boo Quote
TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 This will be fun... I hate front drivers but my tincan was one of the most fun cars to drive that I have owned! Can't wait to overtake you on the back straight of winton :P JP Quote
JJT036 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 This thing looks Mad! It's got potential! I love it! Good score Matt. What are your plans in regards to the Powerhouse? Josh  Quote

Josh  Just re-hone the bores, new bearings, new rings and run a gasket set through it. Should be nice and reliable this way. BTW Jarrad you might have me on the straights but you'll be breathing 4AGE fumes in the twisties :P Quote
TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 You'll have to catch me first Matty :D Quote
Doogs Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Should be fun. I do tend to agree with Evan though, FWD wouldn't be my first choice. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Posted December 24, 2010 I wouldn't chose FWD intentionally but it wont pose a problem for a little lightweight, well set up car with only moderate power. FWD generally poses a problem when some decent power and weight is thrown in. So I can't see it being a problem for me. But... if only I could have got an ae86 with twincam in similar condition for the same price! Quote
BReNt Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 FWD is sweet! totally different driving style but once you get the hang of it you can have a shit load of fun. especially on dirt lol.... Make it into a rally car! Quote
ae824ate Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Ive owned 3 AE82's, and they have all been awesome cars, one of my favourites!! My last twinky with mild head work suspension etc had no problem keeping up with my mates WRX. I love being able to brag about that  . With minor mods and treated well, they are crazy fun cars to drive. Best of luck, Luke. Quote
kickn5k Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Nice score matt I'll get those prices for you very soon. It maybe FWD and all but atleast it's not a filthy dirty sounding late model datsun!!! Oh that's right you have one also sorry. Your dads going to need to extend the shed mate. Stu. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted December 26, 2010 Author Report Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) Haha thanks Stu. It'll probably be more fun to wring the neck out of then the Datto 200. Funny you mention the shed, as it seems this recent purchase is the final straw for the old man and will be staying outside! Might invest in some tarp from Bunnings me thinks. Oh and I got the gearknob back on it today. Things can never be a straight fit can they? It seems someone 'modified' the thread on the stick. All sorted now at least. 78_7kRolla Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 *Small update* Started back at work this week (where the car currently sits) and have been either way too busy to look at it or the weather simply said "NO!". However this arvo it cleared up and although it was too late to do anything on the motor sides of things I repainted the grille with red highlights :) Next is to get a bumper for her and front lip spoiler of some description. (and of course rebuild it) Quote
