PHATKE20S Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Toolbox on drawbar would be quicker & easier, then make a strap underneath it for a spare tyre. Two coats should be ok if you're putting clear on it, the more clear the better..... I can get cheap Gas Bottle/Jerry Can holders if you need them too (fit nicely behind the mudguards) & would help counter-balance the extra weight of the toolbox. Quote
Trev Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Toolbox on drawbar would be quicker & easier, then make a strap underneath it for a spare tyre. I suggested to get a ute tyre holder (windup chain) and bolting it to the underside of the draw bar. John, I was doing some work on a camper trailer on friday (wheel bearings) and underneath the back was a water tank and on the side of the trailer was the filler and pump, wasn't a bad idea. Quote
Felix Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Nice effort there. Spare tyre up front would be good. Should have painted it in hammertone. Where is the jockey wheel? I thought about buying a second hand trailer but ended up buying a new galvanized one, and am glad I did. I'm lazy these days. My 6x4 has got 900kg springs and a 2 foot cage on it which is friggen brilliant. Quote
JiP Posted December 13, 2010 Author Report Posted December 13, 2010 Yeah planning on buying a jocky wheel, just as soon as work pays me. They shorted my pay by $750 so things are a bit tight atm. But plenty can be done with what I already have. I've had most of these paints for years. Quote
PHATKE20S Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Go to Repco for your Jockey Wheel mate. They're cheaper than others and are quite often on sale too. I would also suggest spending the extra few $$$ to get the swing-away type. Quote
JiP Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 Yeah thats what was planning to do. Quote
towe001 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 One trailer that dad had a few years back was fairly light (5' x 4' from memory) and he just made up a leg thing that swung up between the draw bar. Quote
JiP Posted December 16, 2010 Author Report Posted December 16, 2010 I am so PISSED OFF!!! Firstly the storm hits yesterday arvo. I run out as I know the tarp covering the trailer will fill with water, and I chuck the bricks off. I didn't take much notice of a couple long KE30 garnish pieces I had stretching along the trailer to keep the tarp up. Since they are light weight when the tarp filled they bent in and scratched the paint. My fault, I take that. I'll try to patch it up, but after all it is only the inside and that will get scratched. Then I get home to find that dad covered the trailer with the tarp again, and stuck masses of bricks on the guards. If only something rang a bell in that rotten brain of his that the last time he tried that the weight of the water pulled in and SCRATCHED MY f@$kING PAINT!!! Now I have to respray the f@$king lot!! beerhead Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Hey dude, hows things - Hate when oldies mess your stuff up! How much you get charged for that swimming pool ? Quote
Trev Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I'm coming for aswim, my creek wasn't deep enough. Quote
PHATKE20S Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I am so PISSED OFF!!! Firstly the storm hits yesterday arvo. Don't blame the storm.....You just left that hose turned on didn't you Jon.... :P As for the trailer mate, sorry to hear that your old man f@#$ed it up but at least you know now that there will be plenty of coats on it..... JiP Posted December 18, 2010 Author Report Posted December 18, 2010 Damage Control Alot has gone down in the past couple days. I almost gave up on the trailer, hired a trailer and shifted all my things to the new place where I never would have seen my parents again. But today I apologised to my father. He had every good intention as he sees how hard I've been working on this trailer. So I'm back in the garage. My godfather came over yesterday and welded in that last support, and supplied the 'H' rack. Today I've just finished painting the last coat of paint/touch up coat on the trailer. Tomorrow I'll be putting the clear on I hope. I've also just bought the jockywheel, the some stainless steel latches, stainless steel screws/bolts etc. Priced up the hardwood timber decking and looks like I'll be saving $245 as it'll be only $114 :D Now I was going to make it that the 'H' rack could be adjustable but sadly its a real tight fit, so I feel it'll scratch the paint. So I have it on the highest. Also I almost painted it black. What does everyone thing, would have black been better? Quote
PHATKE20S Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Nah mate it looks good silver (would have looked tacky & cheap if it was black) I would suggest some black foam padding (same as Prorack P-Bars use) along the top rail, stops scratches & whatever is loaded on it from rattles and sliding around... Quote
JiP Posted December 18, 2010 Author Report Posted December 18, 2010 Yeah I was thinking that too. Anyway this is what I just did... I just ran out of black paint. This project has been me using up what I've had sitting around for years. Which is good, cause I don't have to cart them all with me to the new place :) Anyway hope you guys like :D Quote
