Crowie55 Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 I've got 155's on the front and 165's on the rear of my 13x7's, clears the guards, some people think it looks good. Grip is bad in dry and non existant in the wet. My brother has a 4dr 55 and it out handles my car easily just because of the tyres. as soon as they wear out some 185's are going on and guards pumped/flared. Stretched tyres wont look cool when your on the back of a tow truck guys. Quote
Evan G Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 man 155 are fuken cheese cutters LOL! and there prob a 10 year old tyre thats super dooper hard. with stockies 175R13. it understeers like a mofo! with current 195/60R14 no under steer! (and there 6 year old tyres) Quote

LittleRedSpirit Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Mate, you will have absolutely no problems with a 205 on a 8" rim. :) I have been running 175/65s on a 7.5" for over 6mths. hard driving, 2x skidpan/motorkhana days and its perfectly fine even at 32psi.. 175 on 7.5" is nothing compared to what proper motorsport/drifters are running. Styler - You should add: a big reason (probably the main reason) why people run stretched tyres is for guard clearance so you can run wider rims (for track increase/stability).so not just the looks and less grip for drift. a slight stretch is an advantage for grip. larger tyres on not so wide rims cause the sidewalls to flex/roll. Its sidewall flex that results in grip. I don't know how stiffening it with extra pressure or stretch would help. I also 100% disagree with your statement about wider rims equalling more stability with a strectched tyre. If you stretch a tyre, the edge of the tread is a decent distance inside the edge of the rim, so the width increase is mostly visual. Like Oh what a nissan feeling said, you can put a 205 on a 6. I just think a 205 on an 8 is a good balance of a few things you want: a good looking wheel and tyre, grip, fitment on the car and clearance, and economy of buying tyres. Quote
e70van Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Its sidewall flex that results in grip. I don't know how stiffening it with extra pressure or stretch would help. From what I've experienced using cheaper tyres (which usually have soft sidewalls) by have a slight stretch (I'm not talking a 185/60 on a 9" rims.ive had it on a 7" rim)it gives a better steering response and helps to stop that feeling of "the tyre is going to roll of the bead around this corner" sorta feeling! with tyre pressure i have always run my 14" front tyres (no matter the size, brand) at 32-35psi. I also 100% disagree with your statement about wider rims equalling more stability with a strectched tyre. It has a slight stretch, especially according to the older tuning crowd circa 1970s. I just think its has a slight amount, which is enough to look good. The grip levels and predictability of the vehicle are awesome compared to even a 195 205 front rear mix with similar offset. I can highly recommend getting the a wider rubber on your rims, its wonderful to drive. I get that you get an increase in track, just not as much as you could get with a wider tyre. Beating gaurds out is a bit tricky but with help from some friends anything is possible. Quote
eiriksmil Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Stretched tyres wont look cool when your on the back of a tow truck guys. If your car is 'low and slow' as you state, how could this be a potential problem? Quote
Crowie55 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 If your car is 'low and slow' as you state, how could this be a potential problem? slow - as in it doesn't go any faster haha. I'm not referring to myself I drive relatively calm, only give the car some where it is safe. Just stating that people(aka P platters) who think stretched tires on wider rims make your car handle better will most probably end up in that situation. cheers, Crowie Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 id run 10's on the back if they fit. Worst case you fit a hairdryer so you can turn them Quote
big-83n Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 After reading through this thread I have a couple of questions of my own, ive just got a set of simmons v4s 15x6 +15 front and 15x7 +0 rears. Not 100% on offset but that is what I was told I own a ke70. Firstly what would the best tyre size to use be? And secondly would these fit without needing to roll the guards? The currents tyres on them are 205/50/15, but judging by this thread that is too big and would foul on the guards is this correct? Any suggestions and advice are appreciated Thanks Quote
mungi mods Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) i run a 205 on all my rims  7.5 through to 9.0 inch :hmm: i would go wider but profile is stopping me  if like last year 215/45/15 was still available that is what i would be running  wide rims deserve wide tyres make the car fit the rims not the other way around :laff: i have done a 185/55/15 onto a 10 for a laugh but it was absolute shit to drive on. i have 225/50/15 here but the profile makesw the tyre too big for the width of the guards without major work, it will fit under but fouls on the leading and trailing part of the arch 205/50 is not a bad stretch on a 9 but can look a bit funky on a 10. maybe 8.0 front 9.0 rear? i run my 9.0 -11/8.5 -17 with 205 on the front and the steering was awesome , not super heavy, and that is with stock camber but approx +3 degrees castor.your suspension settings will affect how heavy the steering is far more than the width of the tyre. i did a ke70 years ago fitted with 205/50's on 10's all rou nd and it drove fine but had -4 degrees camber and +6 degrees castor :P wheel bearing life is substantially reduced running this combo , but that is the price you pay. :D Edited March 23, 2011 by mungi mods Quote
daveske55 Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) can i suggest looking at this handy sight. we used it when i was a tyre fitter http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp Edited March 31, 2011 by daveske55 Quote
