ninja-philbo Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 its an easy job to do the hg on m motors bro Quote

They're older than the 6 and 7M, but still fairly reliable and simple. Quote
toyrta Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 ok heres a pic of the motor ....obviously thermostat & gaskets are on the list haha :S so apart from a HG issue is there anything else witht the crowns i should take into consideration ? thanks for all the help too guys Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Looks like your everyday run-of-the-mill 5ME to me Quote
Trev Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Looks like your everyday run-of-the-mill 5ME to me Yeah it is exactly like the 5me in my mums old cressida with air pump and all. Quote
Bamboo Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 M engines naturally run warm. All blow head, pun intended. But they go forever, it's a Toyota after all. Quote
TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 A good mate of mine has a few crowns, two of which run 5me's. To give you an idea of how unkillable they are he ran his last m powered crown (he just stepped into a 1uz powered one) with a blown headgastket for the best part of 170000km! The things done over 450000k's and he's only stopped driving it because he was sick of filling it up with water all the time. If its done a HG don't bother with an aftermarket one, go for a genuine one and it will last. Treat is well and it will never die. JP Quote
7shades Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Teddy and I got this one running after it had been sitting under a tree with weeds growing through the engine bay... For over 4 years. Stale fuel, rusty fittings, clogged filters, water in the tank, failing injectors... Still fired up! You can just make out the genuine Toyota 5M diagnostic 'computer' sitting on the passenger seat :) Edited November 15, 2010 by 7shades Quote
toyrta Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 dude thats awesome !! love it haha the good ol toyota motor ay :) reminds me of my mate back home turned up to my house one day in his KP60 starlet and quickly realised he had been driving with no oil for ages haha so we grabed the drain tray from down the side of shed that had old used oil with leaves and water all up in it and poured it in as a "just to get me home" fix .... a year later still going strong :) untill we decided to take it 4wheel driving and sunk it haha oops :) Quote
silverra23 Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Other thing to remember is this model Crown is worth fark all on the second hand market... i get people ringing me regularly and whinging that they paid so much money for it when it was new and now no one wants them... "It was advertised as Japan's Rolls Royce you know" Yes yes... and now its worth $1500 if you can find someone to buy it! Quote
