Des Posted November 9, 2010 Author Report Posted November 9, 2010 Yes Evan, it has been bleed numerous times. I'm going to test thermostat on the stove on the weekend. I've flushed the system 3 times all ready. The timing was set at 8 degrees when I fitted the electronic dizzy. Will check it again soon. Quote
Evan G Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 take the radiator out or even go to a radiator joint and get them to have a quick look at it, might charge $20 to flush it out Quote

Des Posted November 9, 2010 Author Report Posted November 9, 2010 something doesnt sound right, everything is new and shes still getting hot under the collar? bump the timing up to 12-15 see how it goes I'm starting to think timing. I'm not 100% sure if the vac advance is setup right. A mate says it's right but I'm still not sure. My timing light plays up too. God dam cheap shit. Quote
philbey Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 also once the car is actually moving the thermo fan will be useless, as there will be more airflow from the movement of the car than the fan. No, a pusher thermo definitely makes a difference when moving, even at 100kmh I notice it runs cooler than without it. Radiator is new. Will move the number plate up. Running the 13 psi cap with an over flow bottle. It's not the rad then. My biggest issue (5K with a KE20 radiator) is that I lose water all the time, an overflow is a danm useful thing, in summer, I would be topping my car up 1-2 times a week. Even a half a litre lost makes a big difference to the heat capacity of the cooling system. I'm thinking of fitting a stainless one off Ebay, PWR make a very nice item but its damn expensive. For the price of a thermostat, I would just by a new Tridon one. I used put this in and a cap and it made no difference though lol. Also, I was running the electronic dizzy. What sort of thermofan have you got? I bought an expensive davies craig and it pushes a lot of air. It has a reversible fan as well, cheap ones do not and they are not made to run as a push fan because of shitty blade design. Reversing polarity "works" but nowhere near as efficient. The blades on the Davies craig ones are MUCH better than the cheap Calibre and Sonic junk. In the end I reckon my overheating was due to the head being on its way out. Your motor isn't a fresh build is it? Quote
Trev Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 It's not the rad then. My mate bought a brand new rad for his vn, he got his other mate to fit it and no matter how many times the cooling system was bled it would still over heat, brang it around one day and I took the rad out and gave it a hose flush out and it was full of crap. philbey Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Man that's dodgy! was it a "new" or was it a "reco". Crazy. Quote
Des Posted November 10, 2010 Author Report Posted November 10, 2010 Calibre fan pushing. 10 inch. Might buy a Davies Craig one soon. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Des I have had similar problems in my KE30 and KE15. I once though it would be good to flush KE30 cooling system after 30 years of never being done. Before flush rad good (about 6 months old) and car never got hot. I flushed it put flushing fluid in it. After clean drained coolant added. Went driving to work next day car got hot heaps had to stop every few KM. Turned out since the crap in the motor was so baked ona dn old after flushing it cleaned a lot but also just loosened a lot. So after a drive the loose particles started flaking off and clogged my radiator. Took out rad flushed it my self never got hot again. So just because rad is new does not mean it isnt clogged. Also KE15 I found mine will run with no thermo on at all until I stop and sit at lights. If I have heater tap on so heater is on car wont get as hot sitting at lights I find in my KE15 my heater has a huge effect on the car temp. Also your KE1X if you remove bolts from radiator that supports it and use studs you can mount the radiator from the front of the panel if you follow. This will free up 20mm behind radiator between motor and can run a sucker fan with shroud. I think studs from manifolds are correct thread. I got studs ran a nut on rad installed from front of car and another bolt on top. Works makes a lot more room. Also I found in the KE15 when it had a half gone head gasket car would run hot to. But I bet here it is your rad dirty again. Cheers Cameron Quote
altezzaclub Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 loose particles started flaking off and clogged my radiator. Whenever you're mucking around with cooling systems it pays to put a stocking over the top rad hose before you put it on. Leave it for a few days while you drive then take it off and toss it in the bin. Catches all sorts of loose shit. Quote
Des Posted November 10, 2010 Author Report Posted November 10, 2010 how much timing at 3000 rpm? Not sure will check soon though. I'm going to do that, A thin sock maybe as i don't wear stockings and Fatty only has expencive ones. Quote

Des Posted November 13, 2010 Author Report Posted November 13, 2010 Drove into the valley tonight to drop the missus off and it got hot. 97 degrees sitting on 50mph on the flat. Sitting still neutral it comes down to 80. It only needs to last one more week then i can start stuffing around with it. Quote
