OMR510 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Looking for a place that sells lowering blocks specifically for Corolla rear leaf springs. Yes I have searched and can't seem to find anything but generic ones and I have no idea of what dimensions I need, I know I want to lower it 2-3" but thats all. Also I have heard of rear springs being reset etc ,once again best place for doing it or any suggestions at all cause I reckon the rears are a bit tired and its probably a better option than the lowering blocks. Any help much appreciated. Regards Keith Quote
e70van Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Hey mate, this is for your ke38 rotor project I'm guessing? Don't waste your time with lowering blocks. they make the car handle horrible and can be really unsafe especially if your chucking a rotor in there! Get your springs reset and add +1 extra leaf to each pack. it costs about 200-250ish if you remove/refit yourself. There was a bloke in QLD I'm pretty certain advertising to reset leaves on this site for a slab! i can't find his thread. maybe he deleted it? someone help me out here..! :) I was going to say in your build thread to re' diff choice. maybe look into a cut-down r31 diff and get your corolla leaf mounts welded onto the housing. I did something kinda similar in my panelvan but used a t series celica diff because I'm only running a 4age (low power). Quote
Evan G Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) 2.5 inch will be on the bump stops! (well it did on my ke55) all i did was flip the eyes. handle like a bucket of SHIT!. i got airbourne over speed bumps i recommend running a flipped spring that runs the whole length of the spring. lowers it around 2" so its about 1/2 of a inch off the bump stop. handles well and its still 113mm off the lowest part of the car on 14" Edited October 26, 2010 by Evan G Quote
e70van Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 ^ Did you cut your bumpstops Evan? Quote
Evan G Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 well firstly i flipped the eyes, went for a good drive and wasnt happy with the ride. got home and looked over everything and saw it was on bumpstops! so the next day the took the leafs out again, put the eyes how they were orginally and just flipped the full length leaf I'm running. it was 1/2 inch fromt the bumbstops. handle real nice and no i didnt touch the bump stops. that would be the first thing that a cop would see if my car was too low. bumbstop cut in half LOL Quote
SLO-030 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Evan, the way you describe "reversing eyes" Did you just flip your main leaf? Reset or new leaf packs + extra leaf + half rebound leaf ftw. Flips = death. Quote
Evan G Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 i ran reversed eyes for one day and got sick of it as it was on bumpstops! i ran a extra leaf with the eyes chopped off. flipped that and it sits perfect! Quote
SLO-030 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 How did you reverse the eyes? Flipping the main leaf or getting them properly reversed? Quote

Regards Keith hey Keith with my experience with lowering blocks in a smaller car like a corolla there are not comfortable to use at all the make it a lot stiffer and you can feel every bump best to get the leafs reset like i have in my ke55 coupe i brought mine like that it would be the better of the 2 choices to do my rear leafs are only reset to 2 inch but for the comfort and look of the car it works a treat i have attached a pic for you to look at what mine sits at and i borrowed a pic from PHATKE30's pics just trying to compare the stock with the 2 inch lower and yea there is a difference Edited October 26, 2010 by Undertaker_is_the_best Quote

OMR510 Posted October 26, 2010 Author Report Posted October 26, 2010 Thanks for the help guys, now I just need to find someone in Queensland , the closer the better to help me reset them as it sounds like the best thing to do. Quote

Oh-KE Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Reverse eyes get my vote for lowering, its better than resetting because it doesnt deform the spring arch or something, even worse with flipping?.. It will lower it something like the 2-3 inches you're after, so you will want chop the bumpstops in half atleast. I went through a roadworthy inspection with reverse eyes with bumpstops cut in half the only thing they picked up on was the height. aslong as there is something there that stops metal hitting metal. Also you will want it stiffer so add some leaves. I had 1 extra middle leaf and it was better but still wasnt that hard. I am thinking 2 extra leaves.. or just get another whole leaf pack and combine them with reverse eyes + some nice short stroke shocks + all new bushings and it will make a massive difference. You may want to start avoiding pot holes once you've done this though  Quote
ranko_87 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Reversing the eyes of the leaf spring (done properly, not just flipping the complete main leaf) will lower the car the same amount as the diameter fo the front eye. You always want to have some arch in your spring, not flat or arching backwards (frowning smile) for a few reasons, one being to keep the wheel base lengthing on compression not shortening. Lowering blocks work very well up to 2" on a std car, they don't work with high horse power or in skid pigs. I am in Underwood and can have leaf springs reset. If you interested in blocks or resetting you springs, email or PM me - I hope this isn't considered as soliciting. Cheers Andrew 1 Quote
e70van Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 destroyer: hilux is good but the leaf mounts aren't in the right positioning (so you have to mod it anyway)and its hard to get the right model lux axle with 4x114.3 PCD. r31 is already 4x114.3, they're cheap and lots of spools and different centers on the market.
