Hi Guy's,

Yes, I have searched around for a while. I find it hard to believe that I can't get new Tie Rod end's for my ke10 front end. I have it all pulled apart, went down to a few local steering and suspension places and they all said I have no chance of getting bushes, ball joints or tie rod end's.

I specifically need 1 Ball Joint tie rod end's. I think I can get the rubber boot's for the other ones from Rare Spares.

Cheer's Jordain.

i'm not very good with ke10s. but i'm assuming it would need a ke10 specific ball tie rod? like you couldn't use one from a 70 or something because of the rack's differences.

if not i got a BAZILLION ke70 tie rod ends

anyways, i realise this probably doesn't help, haha.

good luck mate

Thank's mate, I'll take some photo's and measure them up this arvo. Ke20,30,55's all have a different style steering I think. I deffiantly know the 55 is different as I got a ke55 for spare parts for this car. Steering might work if I get depserate, But I'm hoping somebody know's where to get these part's from!

Keep trying a few more places. I went to a local car parts dealer and they ordered them in for me.

Also try ebay, tie rods come up there at times as well...

I'd call Peter from Peter Robinson automotive in huntingdale Melb. He has helped me get everything I needed for my KE10 over the years, and has a whole bunch of old rollas at his workshop. I have always known him as the corolla king as what this guy doesn't know about rollas would fit on a postage stamp. Top bloke too.

It's not that hard to believe it's a 40 year old car! I got lucky and bought a full set of suspension parts that someone had never used and I got some rare bits in the lot. No I'm not selling, before you ask.

Now, do you need a Tie Rod end or do you need a ball joint. You've said you need a "ball joint tie rod end" and it's somewhat confusing, although I'm guessing its the Tie rod end.

This is a Ball joint.

Next up, you need to be careful, there is some variance in parts. There's 2 types of tie rod ends, coarse and fine thread, I'm led to believe that only the latest of the range, the KE18 wagons had the fine thread . My KE16 is a 69 model and that's coarse.. There's also inner and outer tie rod ends (4 in total) on all cars, so you need to make sure you get the right one.

Second if you need a ball joint, I suspect there are some model differences as well; that one mattress posted looks just slightly different to the ones I have at home for mine, but I will check and confirm this.

You need to keep hunting around I'm afraid. Don't try your Pedders or big franchise joints, they'll fix a commodore or falcon no problems, but not a 40 year old corolla. Look for the small joints in the yellow pages.

Call Peter Robinson, he'll probably be able to help you out, if nothing else comes up he'll sort you out with a good condition secondhand item.

I'm after a Tie Rod end.. Only reason I put ball joint in is because my dad keep's telling me it's a tie rod end ball joint.. I knew he was wrong Oh well.

I have 2 inner and 2 outer tie rod end's. My problem is one of the tube had the lock nut welded ( stick welder looked to be done in the 70's ha ha! )it was on the outer ball joint. I managed to crack the nut off, and grind the tube down back to the original shape, There is nothing wrong with the tube.. just I think some Fool was tricked by the left hand thread. I only need a new tie rod end because the thread is stuffed. A picture describes a lot better, Here are a few photo's of what I'm stuck with.

Tie rod ends and ball joints are both specific types of Spherical Bearing, if you went to any auto parts store and asked for a tie rod end ball joint they'd ask you which one you wanted.

I don't think peter will have new rubbers for you, he's a corolla wrecker and as far as I know doesn't sell new parts. But he will be able to help you out.

Hi,

Corolla 1000, KE10, KE15, KE16 list the same tie rod ends. (corse thread) ($55each + Postage)

Corolla 1200, KE11, KE17, KE18 list the same tie rod ends. (fine thread) (no longer available)

Hope this helps everyone out.

Peter is not just a wrecker, he is a mechanical workshop working on old Corollas every week... so he will know what parts can be sourced new as well.

while he might not be a "Wrecker" per se, last time I went in there he had about 4 pallets of K series gearboxes stacked in the corner!

But yeh, he knows where to get stuff that's for sure.
