agius Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) hey guys currently sitting in my ke35 i have a 5k like some of you I'm seeking for a bit more punch when i need it i was going to go through with lowering the compression of my 5k changing piston and rings port the head and bolting up a sc14 charger but i have been thinking quite a bit should i just go through with it... or should i do the mods to a 7k in and charge that instead... or should i just go all the way and fit a 4age in... obviously id like the cheepest possible, but in the end it may end up the most expensive (unreliability etc) and i also think a charged k motor is wayyyyyy cooler than any 4age! but then again...is it worth it? hope you guys can shed some light over this pros and cons would be great also edit: i forgot to mention i am a carby kind of man, i hate wires! thanks in advance!!!!!! Edited October 22, 2010 by agius Quote
bAKER Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 charged 5k will be cheapest option obviously, probably the most reliable and easiest to source parts. 5ks sound way cooler than a 4age, even with carbs. you'll get almost the same power as a 7k, obviously not as much as a 4age. 4age's are really expensive and you can't drive with it legally, even if its got a mod plate cos you're on your Ps. (problem I'm facing) 5k seems to be the smartest option, tell the jacks that the charger is an air con, they'll believe it. Quote
towe001 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Less mod's to fit the 5k. Just like mod plates "P" plates and forced induction don't mix. My idea would be keep the 5k in the car, maybe work it a little. As your gaining experience in driving build up a nice little donk for when you move onto your opens and swap it over. 4ages can be had cheaply, you just have to know where to look, when to look, what to look for and plan your build of the motor. Like it'd be pointless going for a running motor, complete with efi, when your wanting carbs. From my point of view, if i wanted forced induction on the 4age i'd be looking for a 4age with a blown gasket so i can build it to how i wanted it. Quote
Evan G Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 5k block with 4k or 3k head gives you ultra low compression. leave the engine last. do a brake upgrade. upgrade to half decent suspension or coil overs. relearn the car limits 5k might be slow in the straight line but with decent suspension will leave a commodore for dead in the hills! ninja-philbo Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 can't drive charged on ur p's and spend some money on the 7k and that mite change Quote
agius Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 yeah guys abuot the p's thing 2 of my mates have sky lines my best mate has a 180 there all turbo the cops in the western suburbs are more busy stopping people geting stabbed every 2 minutes if you drive on the limit theyll leave ya alone I'm not trying to sound like a smart ass but yeah :) Quote
towe001 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 True true, ask anybody in the business and they'll tell you advertising what you have does work. Keep your products low key and hardly anybody will know about - except word of mouth. Quote
agius Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 exactly right if your turbo/supercharger is screaming and your cooler is sticking out 10ft off ur bumper no shit the jacks are going to pull your over yeah ill be running a cooler but a tiny slim line on hiding behind the bumper all pipes will be sprayed matt black you guys get my drift.. :) Quote
towe001 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Air to water and run the water hoses to the boot. Air to air is simpler but for a road car that wouldn't see boost even a third of the time a track car would is a waste of time in my opinion. For air to air to work and work properly the car would have to be at speed so that it'd have air flowing though it so that it can cool the charged air. Air to water its there no matter what the speed. Sure it may not be as efficient as the air to air but when your talking about day to day driving on legal roads its a lot better. Well thats what i think anyways Quote
agius Posted October 26, 2010 Author Report Posted October 26, 2010 ok i have decided i will go through with charging the 5k ill be putting a 4k head for lower compression, porting it and finding a cam to suit the charged application. ill be doing a blow through setup i don't know if i should start a new thread for this because i have a few questions, but ill give it a shot here 1. i remember reading a long time ago when doing a blow through carby set up you have to modify the needle and seat, and you need the fuel to be pumped in the carby the same psi as the charger is pushing. can some one touch on that? 2. on a boosted application, can there ever be to low compression? or can you just compensate the loss with extra boost? thanks in advance guys  Quote
anastasios Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Taz rx should be able to help you the most Quote
chrisso Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I am pretty sure there is a compression rate, like too low is not going to run right, What boost are you planning on running? Quote
nissan recovery vehicle Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 if a turbo or charged car is the only car available to you, you can get amunity from the p plate laws Quote
