TRD ke70 Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I think this is new, haven't seen or heard about this before. Thoughts? http://www.2wdrallymaster.org/ Quote
Redwarf Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) I have a car that's eligible, but I don't really see the point. It'll just end up being the one with the most cubic dollars wins, like it always does. But then again, I don't see the point of a lot of things these days. Edited October 21, 2010 by Redwarf 1 Quote
TRD ke70 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 Unfortunately Rob it's always been that way. It would be nice to have a series based on just driver ability and not $$$$. Quote
Redwarf Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) They were called Gemini's, and now they're called Excel's. I'm all for freeing up rules, but from what I see i think they're a bit too free. Happy to be corrected. IE SR20 Turbo in a 1600 would be legal? Edited October 22, 2010 by Redwarf 1 Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 yep and it would be a hell of a lot of fun through the forest! mmm turbo'd beams ke25 ftw Quote
Redwarf Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I see dead people. There's not many around competent enough to punt something like that through a forest at pace. 1 Quote
beerhead Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 This is why I love watching the British touring cars. Just ballast the hell out of the fastest cars, kinda strange watching an fwd astra spank an M3 though... I also loved that grass roots rally series they featured on top gear with Bill Oddy driving - you can buy any persons car for $1000 - and they have to sell. Nobody wants to loose there hard work - so they don't do any! I'd be in for a budget corolla rally series. Downdraft carbies - 4K's standard valves and a cage - ballast early KE's to the KE70's weight. I'm sure you could ballast gemini's or any other simple carby car to make for some close racing. Quote

Same happened / is happening in the Gemini's and the Excels. The more money you spent, the faster you went.I remember some one spending $$$$ on pro-flex and Kumo's, not to mention a smart mechanic to tighten up the open diff. If you spent good money on shocks, etc over the next guy, there was a way better chance of you winning. Beerhead, the problem with that is the 70 has a way better back end in it!! Unfortunately most motorsport will always be like that, the people with the big money will be at the top. For me it's about the competition. And the next question is: why would we want to turn rallying into sometime like the V8's, boring!! Edited October 22, 2010 by TRD ke70 Quote

I'm happy to free up engine regs, NA for NA, etc, but I think you can go too far. It all reads a little bit Group G for modern cars for my liking. But then again, nobody's making me run the series, either. Quote
jimi91 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 yeah thats right it is group g basically, from what ive heard its what ever u can fit under the bonnet but it still has to be road legal??? :hmm: But like everyone is saying its who has the deepest pocket!!! >| My idea if i had the money would be to build a corolla rally car with a 20V turbo, even a beams engine turbo, 3sge the list goes on...... The concept is good but it isnt fair for all us average joe blokes who can't afford as much as the next guy who has an open bank book, and yeah it will just make a bad name for the sport cause people will go fast then don't know how to control and prob kill themselfs and we will have group g all over again see ya jimi Quote

I'd wager there aren't that many people around competent enough to punt something like that on _tarmac_ at pace, at least not with any sort of consistency and speed.
