TOM Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 :lolcry: Haha for those who were wondering, the car reflected in the first photo of my last post is my much hated Suzuki SX4 sedan company car. It looks like a stretch which is funny as - these things are a wierd (read...ugly as f*%k) shape and size anyway... I've done nearly 50k kms in it (mixed city and country driving as reps car) and hated every moment of it - has the worst auto transmission ever designed in the history of motoring (advertised as a 4 speed auto, but has double clutching on both 3rd and 4th which is indecisive and annoying and it has no cruise control) and is utterly horrible to actually drive and look at apart from being smooth, quiet and free. I'm not going to bother saying "don't get one", as no sound minded rolla driver would even contemplate it to begin with! I hope... :no2: Quote
TOM Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 diggin this! Cheers Nickyboy, wana swap? Haha this is ok but your 26 is a real gem! Quote
Bamboo Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Drivers door lock problems? No money fix required? Try the "Bamboo" fix and swap drivers/passengers locks. Although this recently backfired when my brother rang me. I sold him my hard top KE35 which I had done my patented swap. A clip broke in the passenger door which required a "break in". No other access available. He's a Brickie and used a trowel to lever the back window, and a rod to push down the winder. Still it's a free fix to those driver door problems! Quote
TOM Posted October 16, 2010 Author Report Posted October 16, 2010 Haha I've done something similar, but the problem is the lock is so worn you can open it with a 5c piece. As it turns out my locksmith can't rebuild it, so he's ordered me what is apparently the last NOS front door lock for one of these in the country! It's costing $70 + $30 to key it to the original key, but worth it I guess. Been busy today pulling interior out for a clean and fish oil. Started by taking out all the seats and door cards, and all the boot trims. Found a crap load of dirt in the bottom of both front guards, so out that came the easy way...compressor and tap-a-tapa Product placement... To counteract the only bad thing about fish oil...one in each door and rear quarter. Had to make a new base for the seat as it was saggy... After a good vacuum and wipe down and door cards reinstalled. And $10 floor mats thanks to SCA Quote
LXY-642 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 that interior looks clean as. nice find. Quote
Oh-KE Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) Looking good mate, I was pretty keen on this wagon after seeing the ad, but didnt have the cash.. Looks like it was worth every penny though. Definitely getting rare in this condition. Keep up the good work :y: Edited October 16, 2010 by Oh-KE Quote
TOM Posted October 17, 2010 Author Report Posted October 17, 2010 Thanks guys, got quite a bit done this weekend which was good. Going to continue cleaning it up while I save for new shocks, front end rebuild, lowering and whatever is wrong with the diff/rear. And keeping an eye out for a K50 with the shifter in the original position. Oh and the under-dash parcel shelf visible in above photos - a home made gem done quite well by a previous owner. It even has a laminated edging on the front to match the interior colour, and goes all the way to the firewall!! :laff: Somewhat undecided on full chrome bumpers and round headlights/grille at the moment :hmm: , opinions welcomed... SLO-030 Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 We've got a 5spd gearbox here. KE70 box with KE30/55 tail housing. Again, belongs to a mate.. Quote
JJT036 Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 If you want a K50 that won't require you to make any Shifter Hole Mods, try track one out of a Ke55. The Under-Dash Parcel-Shelf is a pretty spiffy idea. I like it. :jamie: Full Chrome Bumpers all the way. You can find them on Ke30-36 Corolla's. If you want to maintain the Originality of this Ke38, leave the Square-Headlight Front on it. Looks really cool as it is. I really like what you've done with the Carpets. Top Job. :y: Josh  Quote
TOM Posted October 23, 2010 Author Report Posted October 23, 2010 Spent today cleaning more and trying to get the axles out to change the bearings - the drivers side is definately rooted and I'm 99% sure it's the cause of the rear noise. 225k's and I don't think either have been out. Took the car for a good half hour drive to warm everything up, put it straight up on stands and gave both sides a go with no success. :bash: How many blokes does it take to remove a KE** axle? Apparently more than 3, or perhaps one with the necessary tools... A longer chain and biger hammer would have helped  I've been down this road before and it aint fun.... Quote
SLO-030 Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 Tried the old wheel as a slide hammer? I did the same thing to a disc braked corona at the wreckers, i used the disc backwards on both and they came out first try. Quote
TOM Posted November 20, 2010 Author Report Posted November 20, 2010 Well the axles are still in there...I've been interstate for work lots and haven't had time to look at it... Tried the wheel as a slide hammer with no joy, also put the wheels back on and rocked the car left and right which may have dislodged one of them a bit... Tomorrow will hopefully get the gas torch out for some heat and try again... Also have another idea which may work... Got some bits posted over from lowboost (Thanks again Roy) during the week, best of which are these overrated but dirty rear mudflaps. Will clean up sweet and the lettering will be done in black...don't like the white and some chrome trims which have cleaned up pretty well A mate picked up these front mudflaps at a swap meet for cheap - they're generic ones but should look pretty good Quote
TOM Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) Wow I've been lazy with this...having a company car doesn't help! Also been flat out busy, broke, same old story... I've only driven it twice really since I bought it... Did manage to sandblast my rims at home and repaint them. Added some chrome trims and polished the centre caps and nuts. Found a matching (short stalk) passenger mirror at u-pull-it which was rad, except the stalk had been painted and the chrome was gone. I ended up doing both stalks in the same paint as the wheels, looks ok-ish... Also started polishing the car which is a bit of a lost cause with the metallic, but oh well... Put my steering wheel on, but don't really like it on this car. Something more period is needed dusty from sitting Edited January 5, 2011 by TOM Quote
