skd30 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 SA seems to have an abundance of KE wagons and vans! Its seems to have an abundance of corollas in general. Looks pretty tidy, what are you plans for it? Quote
Ben-89 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I know this is going to sound boring, but serously keep it as it as. That is truly a spotless ke38 in metallic too. Its ones like this I really, really appreciate. :y: 1 Quote
JJT036 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I know this is going to sound boring, but seriously keep it as it as. That is truly a spotless ke38 in metallic too. It's ones like this I really, really appreciate. :y:  +1. Quote
TOM Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Its seems to have an abundance of corollas in general. Looks pretty tidy, what are you plans for it? Yeah SA is good for that, we do have the oldest car fleet in the country apparently! I know this is going to sound boring, but serously keep it as it as. That is truly a spotless ke38 in metallic too. Its ones like this I really, really appreciate. :y: Not boring at all - that is essentially the plan I guess. It's not as good as the photo's make out as you will see later, but it's way better than average for one of these so was too hard to pass up. 1980 KE38 wagon 4K with 4 speed, no air-con. Brown. I lke it. 3 owners I think with plenty of receipts for recent mechanical work done, including this year a fully rebuilt head. 226K kms, interior is amazing apart from torn drivers seat and unknown rear seat condition, but original carpets are in very good order and should come up nicely. Incredibly, it has the original soft-vinyl cargo area cards in overrated condition with original working rear speakers, even the one on the tail gate is overrated!!! See teaser pics below... Dash has cracks but a mat will cover them, rubbers and seals are all awesome. Motor is tight and responsive, everything else works well apart from what I believe is a rooted Diff. Borgy. Bugger, there goes a Saturday... Is obviously in pretty good order for it's age, very straight apart from couple small dings in driver door and paint flaking from previous bogged damage on rear quarter - see pic. Paint is good but thin on roof with a bit of surface rust here and there. Rust in: both rear wheel arches but not much in left side, little bit in inside of tail gate and the section of boot floor right next to it, and a couple other tiny bits but other than that it's looking better than average rust wise. Plans are clean up and put on historic rego (I have a company car for now), standard stuff like chrome trims/black rims, whitewalls, venetian and a black mesh visor and possibly a deflector for the driver window. Fix the diff. And some low...not too much though. Then start doing little bits to the body over time. And a bloody 5 speed gearbox is an essential mod - can't put up with that shit. And it won't happen overnight by any means like many of you enthusiastic and energetic young whipper snappers! I dream of any available spare time and disposable cash! Some more teaser pics I took while I was there...can't wait to drive this baby home tomorrow. Towbar will get used Even the carpet is pretty good and would come up pretty well with a gurney...wish I had one One little tear, otherwise sweet What looks to be the only previous/repaired damge on the car. JJT036 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Oh Wow! This looks amazing, apart from that Bogged Area near the Tailgate. I reckon, instead of a Mesh Visor, you should find a Fibreglass (or whatever it's called) Sun-Visor. I really Like the Plans for this. I think 2" all round should look Sweet. Josh  Quote
Ben-89 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 It needs work but its an original and most importantly an honest car. Like my cars, there are always things that need doing, its good its going to someone like yourself who will retain the originality while making it a bit different :y: :y: Quote
SLO-030 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 DUDE! I seriously bought this ones twin about 6 months ago.!! Quote
ae824ate Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 GRRR!!! I need to move to South Australia! Id kill for a Panel van or an older wagon, they are beautiful cars. One of my favourite cars was actually a 120Y wagon we called the Milkbottle haha. Great score mate, enjoy it. Quote
TOM Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 DUDE! I seriously bought this ones twin about 6 months ago.!! I nearly bought yours when it was at Gawler motor wreckers early last year haha - they wanted $850 and I said no - I remember it had moss growing out of the front guards!!! My hat goes off to you for saving it Ryan - this isn't nearly as ambitious a project as yours! You didn't end up witha spare diff by any chance? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Even the carpet is pretty good and would come up pretty well with a gurney...wish I had one Talk to 7shades! Seriously though, just take it to your local car wash and hit it with there high pressure cleaner. Quote
SLO-030 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Yea, i went and looked at the 30 2dr they had there. Seen the wagon sitting there and didnt think much of it. I got a mate with a spare borg warner, no brakes tho, in unknown condition. Will talk to him if your still keen. Quote
TOM Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 Talk to 7shades! Seriously though, just take it to your local car wash and hit it with there high pressure cleaner. Haha for sure - his last effort was spectacular! Well car is home now after a wet drive home, looking forward to having a better look tomorrow when there is daylight. Discovered a few more issues on the way home as one does, but also found some more pleasant surprises. It's a 10/1980, same year as me which is cool. More to come soon. I'm at least 5% happier overall as a result of being back in a rolla. Quote

I'll let you know about the diff once I confirm what the problem is. Cheers. All trims and seats out this wkend for a full detail and fish oil. Lots of fish oil... And need to get the driver side door lock fixed - can open it with anything. And both front seats are wobbly. More pics before the cleanup starts. Mmmmmmmmmmm.....
