t18drifts Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 ok the other day i had the metal lid of the stock air filter casing on my 3tc and started the car up ....... It sounded real nice ...... So i was thinking is it possible to remove the whole stock one and wack a small pod filter derectly on the carbie could this work ..................cznt afford webers ect so i wonder if i could do this Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 No reason why not... probably breathe better, but it will be hot air under there in traffic on a sunny day. Quote
t18drifts Posted October 4, 2010 Author Report Posted October 4, 2010 so say if i cut a hole in the bonnet derectly above the carbie and put a little scoop there and put a pod right in the scoop would that be an idea Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Yep- That what we did to the rally car fibreglass bonnet one time..... and it bulged up at about 160kph and bent in the middle!! :laff: Do it like a Falcon Shaker! Hole in bonnet and scoop sticks through. Quote
ke70dave Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 untill it rains! not sure thats legal either. best bet would be to get one of those little metal air filter assemblys kind of like this http://www.carbkitus.com/images/00-9025-0.jpg can get them from autobahn etc, there is a company that makes them, can't recall the name. then just get a pipe and run it from the front of your car (behind the grill perhaps), up to near the carby so it will get a bit of cold air. cold air induction isnt as important for carby cars, since the hotter air car also help with fuel vapourisation/atomisation and help with getting a good clean burn. though the engine will enjoy a bit of fresh air. all this will look cool, and sound cool, but will do hardly anything in actually making your engine faster/better. if you want to be cheap (like me) get the standard air filter and cut the excess metal off so it pretty much looks like that one posted, just the element and the top and bottom lids. altezzaclub Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 not sure thats legal either Yes, I wondered how Ford did it. I assume it seals around the top of the carb when you close the bonnet so ""oil can't blow over the windscreen from an exploded engine"" or some other bullshit story they use to ban things like that! I've always wanted to slot the bonnet to get air out from under there but lefting the rear edge was not legal.... So on the last rally car I built the 'frame' for the fibreglass bonnet took a diagonal shortcut across each rear corner, and the bonnet itself was only one cloth thick, so quite flexible. At rest it looked great, flat with a curve as it should have, but as the speed built up the rear corners would lift and let the air pressure out of them... Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 we did this to my rolla after a few beers one day. made it sound awesome haha, no discernible increase in performance, and even tho its secured i'm faaaairly sure its illegal. Quote
