Ahk cool. From what I have read all the s13 gear pretty much bolts in if you use the s13 crossmember, you just have to file the x member holes out a bit, yeh?

Yeah i have a s13 crossmember already drilled out to suit a ke70, but yeah you have to elongate two holes abit so that two bolts will sit in there, when i had my ca crossmember in the car, all i did was hold it up to the car, two bolts slid down into place, and then measured how much needed to come off for each bolt hole and went for gold haha, but yeah the s13 crossmembers do fit just a pain in the ass to make shit work with them trust me, if you want to find out whats involved have a read through my build thread 'the black pearl' go back maybe 7pages max and it should still have all the info you'll need to know, there is alot involved like things you wouldn't think of untill you've done it

i belive though that when you use the s13 cross member it sits the engine in a funny position?

better of using the standard crossmember and just making up a few engine brackets to fit. and positing the engine as low and as far back in the engine bay as possible.

pluss I'm not sure how you go about mounting the KE steering rack to the s13 xmember, though you could use the s13 rack with powersteering i guess, but then how do you join the s13 steering rack to the KE steering column?

Dave you don't worry about using the ke steering rack well i didn't anyways haha, when i was gonna do my conversion i made the s13 rack uni mount to the ke colomn :D cause i'm awsome haha, there is picks on here about it i think, check the engine conversion thread for ke crossmember+ca+rb mounts i put a couple of pics about that in there too, on the subject of the crossmember it would sit the motor to one side a little unless you elongate all 4 holes to make it sit perfect, plus there is a guy on 86dc selling ca-ae71 mounting kits for $300 you just gotta have the ae crossmember to start with haha :P ,

I understand what a lock spacer is and where it goes. It is fitted in between the LH rack end and the rack, this makes the total length of the rack longer, which is why I asked the question. Thanks.

so you just answered your own question in a way,

the lock spacers are different for every car/rack, they make them so that you can unbolt/screw your rack end, screw the spacer in then, bolt/screw the rack end back into the car get a wheel alignment, and don't drive it on the street :P ( they are illegal for street use, although that has never stopped anyone before huh??? :P )

I just wasn't sure if the lock spacer gave it enough length to reach the S13 steering arms. I just don't really want to go out and buy longer rack ends if they are not essential but, if longer rack ends AND a lock spacer will perform better then, I will still buy longer rack ends. Cheers.

If you want longer lca's get longer rack ends at the same time man, saves going through all the shit of buying the lock spacer then fitting it, then finding out it still isn't long enough then having to order in longer rack ends, then waiting for them to turn up, in the mean time your car is there still not steering or driving due to something that could have been avoided in the 1st place :D

Has anyone got any pics of AE and KE engine cross memebers side by side? I bought someone's un-finished CA/KE70 project as a roller and I can't tell the difference between the cross member in the roller compared to the one in My AE71 daily so I'm not sure if the previous owner has already put an AE cross member in..

Cheers, Locky.

There is a significant height size difference the k series crossmember has a taller engine mount, where as the a series is alot smaller bud
