nz_83_dx Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 When my ke70's traveling at lower speeds the speedo needle shakes quite abit, anyone know how to cure this? Thanks Quote
Trev Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Pull the cable out of the middle of the outer and give it a clean and re-lube. 1 Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Trev's answer X2.. Pull it off at the top behind the dash, pull the cable right out and feed it back down through grease on your fingers. Disgusting job but it keeps it lubed for years. Quote
eiriksmil Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 The needle shake is part of the charm though.. :) Quote
daggers57 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 While you've got the cable out, check for any kinks as this can also cause parkinson's in your speedo. If it is kinked, you may be able to fix it with pliers, (be gentle!) or it may need replacement. I think the inner cable maybe available from a gauge repair shop. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Would an unlubed cable cause mine being out by 10k? IE 110 for 100kph, I always have to be 10 kph higher. Quote

No, that's caused by a the wrong plug/mechanism down at the gearbox, got the same thing wrong with mine. The little gear depends on the diff ratio and the gearbox. Evan G Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 or the size of your wheels ;) I'm doing 110 when my speedo is showing 105kph because I'm running 14's instead of 13's Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Wheels are 13's and it did the same thing with 4 speed to 5 speed. And my new 15's are pretty much the same diameter with 50 series on them. Ill look into that plug thing, its not a huge issue. Not something I need to worry about anyway but seeing as there was a speedo cable topic thought I might ask. Quote
nz_83_dx Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 sweet thanks, any tips on getting the gauge cluster out? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Pull the plastic surround off, there are a few screws, then i think there are 4 screws holding the cluster in. Then slide the cluster out, you'll prob have to reach in behind and unclip the speedo cable, push the speedo cable through the fire wall a bit more from the engine bay side if you need more room. There will also be a wire cluster plugged in the back. Quote
eiriksmil Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Yeah, be careful as those plastic surrounds break easily if you're using force i.e not taking your time.. Quote
Trev Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Why not do it the easy way and undo it off the gearbox sender and just pull the inner out while the cable is still in the car. :hmm: Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 he asked how to get the cluster out... But that's how I'll do my cable, good idea. Quote
