motagraff Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 As mentioned in the other topic posted, my 4K's done quite a few K's. Should I rebuild it? how much (approx obviously) would this cost me to have done by a professional? would it be easier to purchase one that has already been rebuilt, and swap em over? thanks again.. ke70dave Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 don't fix something that isnt broken;) is it blowing smoke? is it rattling? does it run smoothly? whats compression like? any blow-by? if all of these things are ok, it may very well go for another ~360,000kms if well maintained. cost? if you are serious about getting a professional to do it all....ring one up and ask, better yet go and see one and have a good chat about your options. just a note, to get a professional to completely rebuild your engine, is going to cost you an absolute fortune. B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 How many K's, budget, etc. Mines done 650,000 k's and still goes sweet. Easier probably to source a decent 5k, bolts straight in minimal fuss, and spend cash making that run better. Quote
GJM85 Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) Pull the bastard out and pull it apart. Piece by piece down to the block. It will blow your mind how basic these motors are. Your looking at about $480-$570 for an ACL rebuild kit and $135 for a timing kit. Head reconditioning for $300-$1000 depending on the condition. If your confident there is nothing wrong with the bottom end you can get a VRS kit and just do the valve seats, seals and gaskets off ebay for about $80-$170. If you want it rebuilt by a professional you can add labour at about $100p/hr for 4-8 hours. Plus add for any mods you want done. I'm rebuilding a 5k and the only tools i've bought are, a piston sleeve, valve spring clamp and a die grinder for the port work. Edited September 10, 2010 by GJM85 Quote
philbey Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I spent 1300 on my 5K for all parts, balancing, seals, acid dipping, boring, head rebuild. I put the whole engine back together myself, I wouldn't expect much change from 2 grand if you pay someone to rebuild the whole motor. Quote
Pongwow! Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 We has ours put together for 400, but whole motor was around 3000 Quote
