SteveXc Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Hey guys, Recently bought myself a 82' Flat front ke70. Bought it off "old fella" on here. I had been looking for a few months before i found one i was keen to buy. It has a rebuilt engine, with a 25/65 cam, new exhaust etc. Was by far the best ke i came across in my price range. I wont be going all out on this car as i have a 78 XC falcon that takes up the majority of my spare time and a 77 120Y datto that takes up the rest. At the moment the plans for the old girl are- Lower it- using pedders low springs and pedders short travel shocks. Paint it- This wont come for a while as i need to get the Xc and datto out of the garage to get the keto in to paint it. I'm tossing up between doing it white or the original cream colour, easy to work with, cheap and looks clean but is boring and common, or emerald green, harder to work with as its metallic and will require more body work to get it straight enough to look good and will cost more, but will stand out more and ive never seen a ke70 in that colour. Only time will tell which option i take. Tint it- No explanation needed. and over time might "jdm" it :lolcry: ie fender mirrors, quad lights etc Another thing i am looking into is the chrome bumpers, but i don't have a spare 600$ for a set, so i measured up the dattos bumpers and the front its the exact same size and the ugly black ones on it atm, and i can pick another 120y bumper up for next to nothing so with a bit of work might be able to get it to fit on. Which only leaves the back bumper to figure out, as the dattos one is way too small to fit. Anyways here are some photos, and ill be sure to update here with my progress :lolcry: And comments and ideas are always welcome! Quote

KETURBO25 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Nice car man, k motors would have to be up there as being one of the most resiliant around, when i was younger they were the burnout car of choice for a lot of people, no wonder why really, they just don't wanna die. Quote

Old fella Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 G`day Steve, nice to see the old girl again. Sorry I didn`t wash it for you before you picked it up, but we have water restrictions up here on the mountain. When you get around to lowering it, don`t forget that the front strut inserts and the rear shocks are less than 5000k old. Someone out there will buy them for sure. Really glad to see you looking after the old girl, cheers. Trev. Quote

Yeah ill post them up on here when i do lower it, too good to chuck out. Be sure to check in here from time to time to check for updates on her :rolls: Should have her rego'ed in a few weeks then lowering will follow shortly after.. then over time all the rest will come ahha Quote
SteveXc Posted October 25, 2010 Author Report Posted October 25, 2010 Put a set of a mates chopped springs in today, just for shits and giggles. Sits at a nice height, but so bad to drive, the rear springs are cut that short that they do absolutely nothing. Does look good tho ahha Quote
SteveXc Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 Picked up a set of delta meshies for the keto. They wont in the best condition but got to work on them this morning and they came up pretty good. Only got two done before the rain came, hopefully finish the other two on the w.e. Before- During- After- Quote
SteveXc Posted October 30, 2010 Author Report Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) Got the keto half primed today, all the passenger side is done, will do the other side 2moro. Still needs to be sanded and a second coat as you can tell from the pics Edited October 30, 2010 by SteveXc Quote
SteveXc Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Finished the base coat this morning, might do a hi fill or two before painting it. Also need to fill a few dents and things. Quote
SteveXc Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Posted December 24, 2010 Got these rims for my datto but they are a little too wide for the front, they about 1mm off the shock and are already flush with the guards so can't use spacers, so i chucked them on the keto to see how they looked, didn't think they would suit it at all as they are more of an "old school" styled rims but i think they actually kinda suit the 70.. what does everyone think? they are defiantly different for a ke. and a few pics of the meshies on the car... Also picked up a chrome bumper off a datsun sunny for free when i got an engine for my datto, it almost bolts straight on! the mounts are a little to close together but can be easily made to fit, and should look better then the oversized stock black one ahha Other then this haven't done a lot to the ke, started the hi fill on it but the pipe on my compressor decided to split (got to love it a 900$ compressor, has had a few hours of use and already needs fixing :S) but once i get that sorted and get some decent weather she should be painted and on the road.. SteveXc Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 interesting colour choice for the wheels :) hows the painting coming along? Yeah wanted something that would stand out a little :) Umm the painting is still underway, Just got my datto finished today so got it out of the garage and the keto took its spot. Have a little bit of body work to do then will throw some colour on. Doing it gunmetal grey now, its the paint that was gunna be for the XC but have now decided to go a different colour for that. Should happen next weekend hopefully, back at uni and still work 30 odd hours a week doesnt leave all that much time to play around with the cars haha. Ill chuck some pics up now, not a lot of progress tho unfortunately. As you can see from the pics, still a fair bit of work needed before the colour will go on. But all my focus is on it now thaT the datto is finished so hopefully will be done soon =) Quote
