ae95rwagon Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Just got this car and at 135km in 22 years it is pretty straight, having stepped out of a AE82 which got a right thrashing on bush roads I want to make sure the new baby is running well for my trips,so i am resolving all mechanical bugs and then altering suspension height and strength. So it gives a nasty shudder in 1st (manual) esp turning. I went over the car thoroughly and decided the likely culprit was broken front lower engine mount. Which had separated. But still shudder, somewhat less, but it is there. So my question is there any know cause in this car that can cause this bug,i lifted up the rear wheels and the diff has very little backlash and the driveshaft has no obvious signs or wear on the spiders of the bearings. Next question. Rear shocks are pretty soggy,i want more height and strength, any known easy fits, like falcon or camry? The blower motor resistor has burnt out is toyota the only origin of a replacement(the wrecker said old ones are always cactus? Lastly fuel economy is about 10litre hundred, and compared to the ae82 with a carby motor gutless. I checked the o2 sensor and it is giving positive voltage increase when heated, changed fuel filter plugs cleaned the rotor points and new air filter, so no fuel leaks blocked lines.would 10%ethenol fuel render poor economy due to the injection on this motor? In the AE82 I could easily burn rubber, this car I doubt it. Advice appreciated. thanks Stephen BULLBAR WANTED…. Quote
26wagon Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) Noted you wanted a bullbar - some one on ebay is wrecking one that is ugly as sin! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-Corolla-AWD-...=item43a17b1775 In one of your other posts you mentioned the a noise from the rear maybe its you rear uni joint. That could also explain the vibration. You also said your diff lock light wasn't working. if its in 4wd\locked then you would get a lot of diff wind up casuing the car to lurch through a turn especially on bitumen. TOM Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) If it's in diff lock mode you would know about it straight away - tyres chirp round corners and the car will protest at any turning of the wheels on bitumen. Mine was a bit tempremental when trying to deactivate the diff lock and took a few goes. In the AE82 I could easily burn rubber, this car I doubt it.Advice appreciated. thanks Stephen Burning rubber isn't something these cars like to do at all. The transfer case will not tolerate being abused in these cars - they're not a sports car and shouldn't be driven as such or things will eventually break. Saying that, 135,000kms is very low for one of these and you see them advertised with 400+ kms on standard mechanicals, so it should take a fair flogging yet. As for the shudder, it could have a slightly bent axle? Shagged bearing? Bent rim? I've seen plenty of these things with bullbars on them, not sure who manufactured them but they shouldn't be too hard to find. Ring places like Just Wrecking Toyota's here in SA, not sure if you have a similar wrecker over there or not... Also, to my knowledge the suspension can't really be raised a whole lot due to the design - I'm sure one of the more experienced 95 owners could tell you more about this but someone else has asked the question previously on here - a search may yield some answers. ae95rwagon Posted December 7, 2010 Author Report Posted December 7, 2010 Thanks for you ideas. I had never thought of a bent axle, although i think it unlikely as it tracks straight on the freeway,I did look at suspension bushes and trailing arm bush, but so far plenty of life in them as with the centre bearing, no play. Bent rim, a possibility but as it has 13inch alloys. I pretty much gave up on altering the suspension, although as it bottoms out on corners even under mild driving and the tyre strikes the guard, some new struts might be in order. Still no joy on the bulbar, despite looking. Quote
JedzWagn Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 There's a bullbar on ebay at the moment http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Alloy-Bullbar-suit-Corolla-4x4-4wd-AE95R-Wagon-/300523514415?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45f898ea2f just do a search on ebay ae95 & you'll get all sorts of things from bushes to lights steering wheels & so on.. ae95- wagon kid Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 fit kyb shocks and harder king or similar springs that with new bushes makes a world of difference if you want height king springs make larger springs or you can get lowered ones like mine. i fitted a subaru brumby bullbar and it fitted perfectly and actually looked good, i used the original mounts and fabricated them to suit the corolla. i also fitted 15 inch rims as they fit real nice and give better stability see if you can fit larger tyres for better grip in the dirt. regards. ae95rwagon Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 Ae95 Kid have you got any photos?Of the bulbar adaption or wheel style. the car has had a few bugs lately, i dismantled the starter and greased it all up,now it doesn't bind, but overnight the A/C fail last week,i have the check the compressor clutch. I finally got the 4wd light to engage, man that pissed me off that i couldn't fix it,who ever did the last clutch never connect a transmission crimp the light needs to talk to the gearbox, it was really impossible to get at to. So now just the a/c and tramping at the back, which i am certain is bushes, needing replacing. I came across a few bulbar, but thus far they are all nudge bars which i had the in toast and they just bend back and crush front panels,i want a alloy box section replacement, more stopping power and saves the radiator. it has been good so far, but i feel the fuel consumption is too high,i need to ifs that 12.5 litre hundred sometimes.
